The original MB&F HM11 Architect, introduced in 2023, turns a watch case into a miniature, inhabitable-looking structure: four peripheral “rooms” arrange the indications around a central flying tourbillon, beneath a double-domed sapphire roof. The Grade 5 titanium case also rotates to wind the manually wound movement, making its architectural idea part of how the watch operates.
What makes the HM11 Architect different?
MB&F calls the HM11 a “piece of wearable architecture” and frames its premise with the question, “What if a house was a watch?” The original design draws on organic, neo-futuristic architecture of the 1960s and 1970s. Rather than placing every display on a conventional flat dial, it divides the watch into a central atrium and four symmetrical chambers. A flying tourbillon occupies the center, rising beneath a double-domed sapphire roof; the four surrounding spaces each have a distinct function. MB&F HM11
What does each room do?
- Time: Hours and minutes appear in one chamber.
- Power reserve: A separate display indicates the movement’s remaining reserve.
- Temperature: Another chamber shows temperature from −20 to 60 °C (0 to 140 °F).
- Crown: The fourth room contains a large transparent sapphire crown used to set the time.
The separate displays make the case’s four-room plan legible, while the tourbillon anchors the central atrium. Sapphire crystals cover the top, back, and chamber displays, with anti-reflective treatment on both faces. MB&F Catalogue 2024
How does rotating the case wind it?
Instead of relying on a conventional winding crown, the HM11 winds through rotation of the complete case around its base. Turning the case clockwise winds the movement. Rotation also lets the wearer change which room or corridor faces the wrist, so orientation is both a practical choice and part of the watch’s architectural presentation. These are MB&F’s published HM11 Architect specifications. The 20 m / 2 ATM rating is shallow: it is not a diving-watch rating, and the sapphire-heavy, multi-chamber construction should be approached as a display-oriented design rather than a tool for underwater use. MB&F HM11

MB&F later introduced HM11 Art Deco as a separate 2025 chapter, not as another colorway of the original Architect. Art Deco shifts the design language from organic, neo-futuristic forms to geometric Art Deco details. Its blue version has 3N yellow-gold-toned bridges; its green version has 5N rose-gold-toned bridges. Both use circular-grained markers and lizard straps, and each color is limited to 10 pieces.
