Its compact diameter gives it vintage-sports-watch proportions, but the 15.7 mm overall thickness and protruding end links matter just as much when judging fit.
What is the Chronosport Blue?
Blue Petroleum is a blue-dial version of Nivada Grenchen’s modern Chronosport automatic chronograph, rather than the black-dial version that appeared at the line’s revival. Its design draws on a 1970s Chronosport prototype; Fratello’s 2024 introduction and H°M’S WatchStore’s 2025 announcement describe that prototype as reportedly made in an estimated 20 examples. That number is an estimate, not a verified archival production count.
The watch’s case is brushed and polished stainless steel. A double-domed sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and black fluted aluminum bezel give the dial a layered, deliberately vintage sports-watch look.
How does the blue dial and bezel work?
The Blue Petroleum dial has a granular matte-blue surface, contrasted by black embossed subdials. The running seconds are at 9 o’clock, the 30-minute chronograph counter is at 12, and the date window is at 3. A tachymeter scale circles the outer dial.

The black aluminum bezel has fluting, a 60-minute scale and a smaller 12-hour scale. The combination of a tachymeter on the dial and timing scales on the bezel makes the face busy, but its color blocking keeps the blue-and-black layout legible at a glance.
How thick is the Chronosport Blue, and how does it fit?
Fratello’s May 2025 hands-on review measures the case at 38 mm across and 15.7 mm thick including the crystal, or 12.7 mm without it. The crystal therefore accounts for much of the profile that makes the watch look taller than its diameter suggests.

The published lug-to-lug measurements do not agree: Fratello reports 44.3 mm, rising to 46.5 mm across the male end links, while Monochrome gives 43 mm. Treat those as source-specific figures, not a single settled measurement. Fratello’s reviewer found the watch comfortably balanced on a 19 cm (7.5-inch) wrist; that is one person’s wear observation, not a fit guarantee. Smaller-wrist buyers should pay particular attention to the case height and end links, and try it on if possible.
Fratello reports a bracelet weight of 163 g and a clasp with two security buttons and a tool-free micro-adjuster providing 13 mm of adjustment. The watch also takes a standard 20 mm strap, so a strap changes both its appearance and how it wears.

What movement is in the Chronosport Blue?
The watch uses an automatic ETA/Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement. Fratello and H°M’S WatchStore report a 42-hour power reserve; Monochrome lists 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). Those specifications describe the movement, not a guarantee of real-world running time or accuracy.
Is the Nivada Chronosport Blue water resistant to 200 m?
The case is rated to 200 m (20 ATM), and the cited descriptions specify a screw-down crown. A depth rating is a laboratory-style specification, not a blanket assurance that every individual watch is ready for every water activity. Water resistance can depend on condition and seal integrity; follow Nivada Grenchen’s guidance and have the watch checked before relying on it in water.

What strap fits, and what configurations were listed?
The standard strap width is 20 mm. Fratello describes leather, rubber and fabric as alternatives, but any replacement should be checked for compatible attachment and end fit. The published launch-era pricing differed by configuration:

What should you compare before choosing a chronograph?
For this watch, a useful comparison goes beyond diameter. Check the combined effect of lug-to-lug span, end links and crystal height on your wrist; compare movement type and power reserve; and weigh the water-resistance rating and crown construction against how you plan to use the watch. Also compare strap or bracelet, adjustment options and the current price and availability in your market, which can differ from the historical figures above.
