The arrangement is intended to average differences between the regulators; a patented damping component is designed to manage the energy disturbance that can arise when both escapements demand power at once. That is the watch’s mechanical proposition—not evidence of a tested accuracy improvement.
How does the DC12 MaveriK’s double-balance movement work?
Most mechanical watches use one balance and escapement to regulate the movement. The DC12 MaveriK’s Calibre C30 uses two. A differential links the balances and averages their rate differences, while the display remains straightforward: hours, minutes and small seconds.
The engineering challenge is that both escapements need energy. Monochrome Watches’ 2025 explanation says their simultaneous demands can disturb the movement or even cause it to stop. The patented hairspring component is presented as a damper that absorbs those perturbations, helping the balances operate without the same drop in amplitude. This is the stated design rationale; no independent timing test or comparative performance result establishes an accuracy gain.
What the differential does—and does not prove
The differential combines the rates of the two regulators rather than making one balance a backup for the other. Averaging rate differences is the concept; the damping component addresses the complication of feeding two escapements. Neither feature, by itself, demonstrates how accurately a finished watch performs on the wrist.

What is the Calibre C30 like?
Monochrome’s 2025 launch coverage describes the hand-wound movement as a 258-component calibre with 45 jewels. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3 Hz, and has a reported 58-hour power reserve from two barrels coupled in series. The movement measures 29.5 mm across and 6.9 mm thick.
The differential and small-seconds display are visible at 12 o’clock. That placement makes the mechanism part of the watch’s face rather than something reserved for viewing through the caseback.

Case, dimensions and water resistance
The launch-era specification reported by Monochrome gives the DC12 MaveriK a 39.5 mm case diameter, 11.7 mm thickness and grade 5 titanium construction, with 50 m water resistance. The official David Candaux collection page also describes the model as 39.5 mm. A separate search result gives a thickness of 11.9 mm, so 11.7 mm is best read as Monochrome’s detailed launch specification rather than a figure on which every source agrees.
Where the design fits in double-balance watchmaking
Monochrome’s historical account identifies Philippe Dufour’s Duality, presented in 1996, as the first wristwatch application of the double-balance-and-differential concept it discusses, following an older Vallée de Joux pocket-watch tradition. The DC12 MaveriK brings that broad idea into a contemporary time-only watch, with its own stated approach to the problem of simultaneous energy demand.

David Candaux’s September 2025 press release, republished by Europa Star, calls the watch “born from seventeen years of reflection.” That is the maker’s promotional description, not an independently established development timeline.
Launch-era price and production context
Monochrome reported a launch-era price of CHF 98,000 before taxes and described the DC12 MaveriK as not being a numbered limited edition, while noting that production is constrained by the workshop’s capacity. Hodinkee Japan reported a projected annual production of 10–15 watches in 2025; that is a launch-era plan, not confirmation of ongoing output.

The official brand collection currently includes the model, but that presence does not establish today’s price, stock, delivery schedule or allocation. Those details need confirmation directly with David Candaux or an authorized seller.
