To read a tempo, you start the chronograph, count 30 beats, and read the pulse rate the scale indicates. Pequignet presents the watch as a new take on its Royale Paris chronograph, and it describes the scale as working on the principle of a pulsometer.
How the BPM scale is meant to be used
Pequignet’s own instructions for the scale are short. The method is a pulse-style count, and the chronograph does the timing:
- Start the chronograph.
- Count 30 beats. Pequignet’s English product page gives the example of “thirty bass-drum hits in a house track,” which is useful if you are reading a tempo from recorded music.
- Stop counting at 30 beats and read the number the BPM scale indicates.
The company’s wording is direct: “The BPM scale works on the principle of a pulsometer.” The chronograph’s 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock is a separate function from this tempo reading and is not part of the BPM method.
Why the reading changes with the time it takes
Because the scale is driven by a fixed count of 30 beats, the reading depends on how many seconds those beats take. Counting 30 beats in a given number of seconds implies a tempo of 1,800 divided by those seconds, in beats per minute. The table below applies that arithmetic to a few example counts. It describes what a 30-beat method implies, not a measured result from the watch.

| 30 | 60 |
| 40 | 45 |
In practice, the quality of the reading depends on how steadily you can keep count against the sound or pulse you are following, which is a matter of technique as much as of the watch.

Dial and case: what the layout means for reading it
The dial is the most visible departure from a standard chronograph. The tachymeter scale that normally runs around the edge is replaced by the BPM graduation, so the chronograph is no longer used to read speed over a distance. The central seconds hand, the 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock and the small seconds at 3 o’clock keep the chronograph’s familiar structure. The black-to-blue gradient and black subdials give the dial a dark, layered look.
At 39.5 mm across and 12.7 mm thick, with a 47 mm lug-to-lug distance, the case sits on the larger side for a dress-leaning chronograph. How it sits on a particular wrist depends on the wrist, so the lug-to-lug figure is the more useful number to check against your own measurements.

Movement and manufacture
According to Pequignet, the movement is based on its Calibre Initial® with new finishing. The company describes it as the fifth Pequignet movement and says it was developed in partnership with an unnamed Swiss maison. The listing adds the following claims, all attributed to the manufacturer:
- Components are sourced within 80 km of the Morteau manufacture.
- The movement is regulated in six positions.
- All Pequignet creations are designed and assembled at the brand’s historic workshops in Morteau, France.
Straps and fit

The listing confirms that the straps are interchangeable, but it does not establish compatibility with any particular third-party strap. Confirm the exact fit before buying one, and check the strap’s own lug and end-piece dimensions against the 20 mm figure rather than assuming a match.

Who the BPM scale suits
- Musicians, teachers and students who want a quick tempo reading without a separate app or metronome.
- Collectors who value a chronograph with a non-standard scale and are comfortable with a 47 mm lug-to-lug case.
- Readers who would rather count beats than read a tachymeter. The method depends on counting, so it will feel slower than a glance at a scale.
Price, availability and warranty
The manufacturer’s listing gives specifications and an order path, but the price, stock level and delivery terms it shows are not established here and change over time. Check them on Pequignet’s official product page or with an authorised retailer on the day you buy.
The listing describes warranty as three or five years depending on model category, with five years for models equipped with a Pequignet movement. Confirm the applicable terms for your market and retailer before purchase.

What is and is not established
Every figure, claim and quotation in this article comes from Pequignet’s own English product page, and none of it has been verified by an independent party. The page supports what Pequignet says the watch is and how the company describes its use. It does not establish how accurately the BPM scale reads tempo in practice, and no independent accuracy test is cited for it. Treat the scale as a manufacturer-described feature until someone outside the brand has tested it.
