It is a reinterpretation of the DiaStar Original, not a new watch family. Rado calls it a “Special Edition”; the official pages do not give a production limit or run size.
What makes this DiaStar a Tej Chauhan edition?
Rado’s design brief was to let industrial designer Tej Chauhan put his stamp on the DiaStar Original while retaining its essence. That intention is visible in the contrast: the recognizable DiaStar-shaped bezel anchors the watch, while the colorful day/date typography, blue and silver minute-track printing and light-grey strap give it a more expressive character. Those descriptions reflect Rado’s presentation of the design, rather than an independent assessment.
Rado’s press page describes the collaboration as an interpretation of a watch that first appeared in 1962. Swatch Group’s archive dates the original DiaStar’s launch to April 1962, placing this edition within that legacy rather than presenting it as an unrelated design. Rado’s collaboration announcement and Swatch Group’s archive entry provide that historical context.
Design and construction
The watch pairs a Ceramos bezel with a yellow-gold-colored PVD coating and a PVD-coated stainless-steel middle case. A transparent sapphire case back lets the automatic movement be seen. The official product page lists a 38.0 mm case diameter, 11.7 mm thickness and headline weight of 101.1 g.

On the dial, Rado specifies a matte black concave surface, applied indexes at five-minute intervals and a moving anchor. A silver and blue printed minute track frames the dial; the day and date sit at 3 o’clock in a font Rado says was created by Chauhan. The hands have white Super-LumiNova details, and the seconds hand carries a neon-yellow accent. A radial-faceted sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating covers the dial.
The light-grey rubber strap has a pillow-shaped profile, another design choice that distinguishes the collaboration’s appearance. Rado’s press material describes the bezel shape as unmistakable and presents the color and typography as part of Chauhan’s interpretation. These are the specifications listed on Rado’s Swiss product page. Rado states the movement’s regulation in five positions; the listed specifications do not establish a precision tolerance or real-world accuracy result.
Movement, water resistance and warranty
Calibre R764 is an automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve and a Nivachron hairspring. Rado says it regulates the movement in five positions. The official specification does not provide a precision tolerance or a real-world accuracy result, so those should not be inferred from the position count.

Rado lists water resistance to 10 bar, equivalent to 100 metres, and a five-year warranty. The rating is the manufacturer’s stated specification; it is not a claim here about performance in a particular activity or the condition of an individual watch.
How it relates to a standard DiaStar Original
The collaboration is best understood as a design reinterpretation. Its most obvious distinctions are the gold-colored PVD-coated Ceramos bezel, black dial with colorful minute-track and day/date details, and grey pillow-shaped rubber strap. The shared name and design intent connect it to the DiaStar Original, whose launch Swatch Group dates to April 1962.

A precise technical comparison with a particular standard DiaStar Original reference requires that reference’s official specifications. The reviewed product information does not establish that the movement or case construction differs from every standard DiaStar model, so the visible design changes should not be taken as proof of broader mechanical differences.

Rado’s Swiss product page displayed a recommended retail price of CHF 2,150 including VAT when accessed in 2026. That is a Swiss-market figure, not a global price or a quote for another country; pricing, stock and terms can differ by market and change over time. Check the local Rado site or an authorized retailer for current price, availability and warranty terms. The official page identifies the reference as R12165155 but does not establish local stock.

Rado’s official material calls the watch a “Special Edition.” It does not state how many will be produced, so the available official information does not support calling it a limited edition.
