Production is limited to 28 pieces, with launch prices reported at ¥59,180,000 including Japanese tax and CHF 336,000 excluding tax.
What is the Enchanter Merlin watch?
It is a 2025, 45 mm Excalibur limited edition that uses the Arthurian story of Merlin’s hidden crystal palace as the organizing idea for its dial. The palace was built to protect Viviane, the Lady of the Lake. Roger Dubuis translates that setting into a dense miniature architectural scene, rather than treating the knights as a decorative motif around a conventional dial.
The watch was announced by Richemont Japan on 24 September 2025. Specialist coverage uses reference RDDBEX1117; the Japanese press release gives the reference as DBEX1117. What is special about the RDDBEX1117 dial?
A stepped crystal-palace scene
A pink-gold base supports 56 blocks or columns at different heights, from 0.2 mm to 3.7 mm, giving the dial a stepped, architectural profile. Roger Dubuis specifies 29 white-enamel blocks, nine pink-gold blocks, nine Murano-style glass blocks and nine hexagonal-cut diamonds. The nine diamonds sit atop rhodium-plated gold columns using an invisible setting; the brand describes this as a first for this particular execution.

At the center is 0.7 g of Crystallium®, which the maker describes as a bright artistic material. Fratello characterizes it as crystallized ruthenium; the brand’s product page does not provide a technical composition statement, so the material is best understood here by its stated name and role in the design.
Twelve distinct knights
Twelve micro-sculpted knights, each about 6 mm tall, encircle the scene. Roger Dubuis says every figure is different. Specialist launch coverage reports engraving and patina used to bring out their details; those craft-process descriptions come from reporting, not a hands-on examination. Their placement makes the dial read as a miniature gathering around the palace rather than a standard hour-marker layout.

How does it tell time?
Despite the visual complexity, the Enchanter Merlin displays only hours and minutes. There is no date or additional complication listed for this model. The dial’s sculptural elements take precedence over conventional legibility, so this is best approached as a métiers d’art object with a restrained time display, not as a tool watch.
The case is 18K pink gold, 45 mm across and 16.87 mm thick according to Monochrome. A sapphire ring sits beneath the bezel. Water resistance is 3 bar, or 30 m; that rating is not a diving specification. The white calfskin strap attaches through Roger Dubuis’s Quick Release System, and the folding clasp is pink gold.

What movement does it use?
The automatic RD821 movement powers the hours and minutes. Roger Dubuis lists 172 components, 33 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 48-hour power reserve. The manufacturer says its components are hand-finished to Poinçon de Genève criteria; specialist coverage reports 14 types of manual finishing.
The movement’s conventional time-only function is a deliberate counterpoint to the labor-intensive dial. The technical specification is relatively straightforward; the watch’s distinction lies in how the movement, precious materials and sculpted narrative are combined.

How much does it cost?
Launch prices vary by market and tax basis. Richemont Japan listed ¥59,180,000 including Japanese tax in its 24 September 2025 announcement. Monochrome reported CHF 336,000 excluding tax. These figures are not directly comparable: one includes Japanese tax and the other excludes tax. Both the Japanese announcement and Monochrome describe the watch as boutique-exclusive and capped at 28 pieces. Current stock, asking prices and availability by region are not established by those launch reports, so buyers should confirm local pricing and availability with a Roger Dubuis boutique.

Why the caseback inscription fits the design
The Japanese release reproduces the engraved caseback text: “Around this table, the bravest knights will gather as equals. They will set forth in search of adventure, righting wrongs, protecting the weak and humbling the proud.” It is an inscription on the watch, not a statement attributed to a contemporary spokesperson.
