Its 38.5 mm-wide stainless-steel case houses caliber 9R31, which offers about 72 hours of power reserve and a manufacturer-rated average monthly accuracy of ±15 seconds.
What does Omiwatari mean on the SBGY013?
Grand Seiko describes the SBGY013’s dial theme as “white silver Omiwatari” (白銀の御神渡り), a reference to the delicate shine of ice reflecting sunlight. Omiwatari refers to rare ridges that can form when Lake Suwa freezes over in midwinter. The lake is near the Shinshu Watch Studio, where Grand Seiko says Spring Drive models are made. The dial is an interpretation of that natural scene, not a claim that it reproduces actual ice. Grand Seiko’s Japanese SBGY013 listing describes the model and its design inspiration.

SBGY013 is a distinct model reference. Grand Seiko also identifies SBGY007 as an Omiwatari-inspired 9R31 watch, but the available model pages do not establish that the two references are identical. Compare their specifications and market listings rather than treating their names or prices as interchangeable.

These are published model specifications, not independent measurements. The case’s 43.7 mm length is useful alongside its 38.5 mm width when assessing how it may sit on a wrist; diameter alone does not describe the full case footprint. The listing does not give a numeric water-resistance rating, so it does not establish suitability for swimming.

How the 9R31 Spring Drive works
The 9R31 is manually wound: turning the crown tensions its mainsprings rather than charging a battery. Grand Seiko says the movement has two mainsprings arranged in parallel in a dual-spring barrel, and credits this design with the approximately 72-hour reserve. It also lists 30 jewels, a power-reserve indicator and a hacking function, which stops the seconds hand when setting the time.
Spring Drive combines a mainspring-driven gear train with electronic regulation. As Grand Seiko puts it, “Its sole power source is a mainspring, which drives a series of gears.” A rotor at the end of the gear train generates a small electrical charge to activate a circuit and quartz oscillator that regulate the watch. The manufacturer says the system uses no battery or other external energy source. It is therefore misleading to describe the SBGY013 as battery-powered or simply quartz-powered. See Grand Seiko’s 9R31 caliber page for its movement description.
What the size, winding and reserve mean for a buyer
Compact proportions, considered by length as well as width
At 38.5 mm wide and 10.2 mm thick, the SBGY013 has the dimensions of a relatively slim dress-watch design on paper. Its 43.7 mm case length is another useful fit measure; wrist shape and the way the bracelet articulates will also affect how it wears. The 19 mm bracelet width is a specification, not by itself proof that a particular replacement strap or bracelet will fit.
Manual winding rather than automatic winding
This reference requires winding by hand. That suits someone who wants the routine and direct interaction of a manual watch, but it differs from an automatic Spring Drive model that replenishes its reserve through wrist motion. The power-reserve indicator can help show how much running time remains.

About three days between full winds
Grand Seiko publishes approximately 72 hours of reserve for the 9R31. In practical terms, that is about three days from a full wind, though the actual time depends on the watch being fully wound and operating normally.
Accuracy as a manufacturer rating
The published average monthly rate is ±15 seconds, expressed by Grand Seiko as equivalent to ±1 second per day. This is the maker’s stated rating, not a guarantee that every individual watch will show exactly that deviation in every wearing pattern or environment.

These listings do not establish an official US price or current US availability. The Japanese boutique listing states a five-year warranty for that listing; that term should not be assumed for every country or seller.

Water resistance and other checks before buying
- Water use: The Japanese product page says everyday-life water resistance but supplies no depth or pressure figure. If swimming suitability matters, consult the official documentation for the market and model you are considering; do not infer a swimming rating from that wording.
- Warranty and service: Confirm coverage and service access with the seller in your market. A warranty stated on one regional boutique listing is not automatically transferable to other markets or sellers.
- Model identity: Check the reference number, SBGY013, on the listing and paperwork, especially when comparing it with SBGY007 or another Omiwatari-inspired watch.
- Fit: Consider the 43.7 mm case length, 38.5 mm width and bracelet construction together. The stated 19 mm width alone does not establish compatibility with a replacement band.
