It uses Seiko’s earlier 1965 Divers platform: caliber 6R35, a stated 70-hour power reserve and 20 bar water resistance. Those specifications are not the same as the newer SPB453 and SPB451 models.
What makes the Zakynthos SPB473 distinctive?
The main attraction is its dial: a wave pattern under a gradient that shifts from white to turquoise and blue. The motif references the waters around Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea. A glossy-looking dark blue bezel complements the dial, while the date sits at 3 o’clock. Monochrome Watches describes the bezel insert as metallic rather than ceramic.
The European-market SPB473J1 was announced as a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. It comes on a stainless-steel bracelet and includes a white silicone strap. The bracelet has a three-fold clasp with a secure lock, push-button release and extender; Monochrome describes the silicone strap as using a steel pin buckle.

How it differs from the newer SPB453 and SPB451
The SPB473 retains the earlier 1965 Divers case and movement generation; it is not a blue-dial version of the newer 2024 SPB453 or SPB451. Seiko’s specifications for the newer models differ in movement, reserve, water resistance and dimensions.

Seiko’s newer-generation page calls the 46.4 mm measurement lug-to-lug, while its SPB473 listing calls 47.6 mm case length. The figures identify their respective models, but the labels are not identical. Choose between them based on wrist fit, the dial and bezel design, included straps, and the specifications you need—not on a blanket claim that one is better.

What the 1965 name refers to
The name points to Seiko’s original 1965 diver, not to an expedition watch called Zakynthos. Seiko says its first diver’s watch offered 150 m water resistance and was used by the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition from 1966 to 1969. That history provides context for the Prospex 1965 Divers family; it does not mean the SPB473 itself went to Antarctica.
Price and availability context
Monochrome Watches reported on 1 August 2024 that the SPB473 would be available from 1 September 2024 at a launch price of €1,500. Seiko Boutique UK’s indexed listing displayed £1,290 when accessed in 2026. These are date- and market-specific retail figures, not evidence of current stock, current pricing, or resale value.

Is the SPB473 worth considering?
The SPB473’s case is strongest if you want the distinctive Zakynthos-inspired gradient and wave dial, the dark blue bezel, and the earlier 1965 Divers proportions and date layout. Its 40.5 mm diameter, 13.2 mm thickness and 47.6 mm case length are useful fit details to compare with a watch you already wear. The included white silicone strap offers a different look from the bracelet without requiring a separately sourced strap.
If your priority is the newer generation’s 300 m rating, 6R55 movement, 72-hour reserve or slightly smaller listed dimensions, compare the SPB453 and SPB451 instead. The SPB473’s limited-edition status and design may be compelling, but the available published information does not establish independent accuracy, durability or water-performance results.
