STOWA’s 2025 Flieger Original keeps the stripped-back layout associated with classic Flieger watches but adds a decorated, hand-wound movement with a central seconds hand. The dial is black, without a date or logo, and uses luminous numerals and markers. A triangle flanked by two dots marks 12 o’clock, and the hands are temperature-blued. The case has an extra-matte, bead-blasted stainless-steel finish; sapphire crystal is used at the front and case back. How large does it wear?
The listed dimensions are 42 mm in diameter, 13.5 mm thick and 52.3 mm lug to lug. The last measurement matters: the watch’s footprint across the wrist is substantial for a 42 mm model. Wrist shape and personal fit vary, but shoppers should compare the 52.3 mm length with a watch they already find comfortable rather than judge by diameter alone. The lug width is 22 mm.

What is the STOWA-M1 movement?
STOWA calls the M1 a newly developed manufacture movement. Monochrome reports that it is based on the Unitas 6498-1, modified to place the seconds display in the center rather than retain the base movement’s traditional small-seconds arrangement. The movement is hand-wound and has stop seconds, so the seconds hand halts when the crown is pulled for setting.
Monochrome’s 2025 report gives the M1 18 jewels, a rate of 18,000 vibrations per hour and a 46-hour power reserve. These figures are reported by Monochrome, not stated on the official product page. How does it relate to STOWA’s historic Flieger watches?
STOWA dates its original Baumuster A Flieger design to 1940 and says Baumuster B followed around 1942. The B layout is distinguished by an outer minute track and a smaller inner hour circle. STOWA describes its historic large Baumuster B as 55 mm and says probably only 42 were made; the production count is explicitly uncertain. STOWA Flieger history
The new Original draws on recognizable pilot-watch details—the triangle and dots at 12, luminous numerals, blued hands and, according to Monochrome, an optional “Fl 23883” case engraving. Check the live product page for current engraving choices. Historical styling should not be confused with certification: STOWA says DIN 8330 was created in 2016 and that it contributed to the standard’s development, but the available model-specific information does not establish that the Flieger Original itself is DIN 8330 certified.

The available choices listed are brown or black leather and a Milanese steel option. Leather preserves a traditional pilot-watch look; the Milanese option gives the watch a metal-bracelet appearance.
