Zenith announced it on March 31, 2023, describing it as “a modern creation in a vintage silhouette”—not as an exact reproduction of a historical black model.
What is the Zenith DEFY Revival Shadow?
The DEFY Revival Shadow is a modern addition to the DEFY Revival line, drawing on the shape of the original DEFY from 1969. Its named reference is 97.A3642.670/21.M3642. Zenith’s launch announcement presents the watch as a contemporary interpretation of that vintage silhouette rather than a direct historical re-creation: Zenith’s announcement.
Case, bezel and bracelet
Microblasted titanium case
The case measures 37 mm across and is made of microblasted titanium. The subdued, matte surface gives the watch its “Shadow” character, while the fourteen-sided bezel preserves the original DEFY’s strongly geometric outline.
Ladder bracelet
The matching titanium ladder bracelet and clasp have a matte finish. Zenith credits Gay Frères with designing the original ladder-bracelet style for the brand in 1969; the Shadow uses that design language in a contemporary titanium treatment. The material and design details are described in Zenith’s launch announcement.
