What is the black ceramic DEFY Skyline Chronograph?
Zenith introduced the reference 49.9500.3600/21.I001 on January 19, 2026, as a new DEFY collection model for LVMH Watch Week. The manufacturer says a full-ceramic DEFY Skyline Chronograph first appeared in blue-toned editions for its 160th anniversary in 2025; this is the black version. Zenith’s announcement and US product page identify the model and reference.
What are its specifications?
| Specification | Zenith’s published details |
|---|---|
| Reference | 49.9500.3600/21.I001 |
| Case | 42 mm, black ceramic |
| Dial | Grey gradient with engraved four-pointed star motif |
| Movement | Automatic El Primero 3600; 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz) |
| Power reserve | 60 hours |
| Water resistance | 10 ATM |
| Chronograph | Central hand completes one revolution in 10 seconds to indicate tenths; 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock and 60-second counter at 3 o’clock |
| Other display | Small seconds at 9 o’clock; date at 4:30 |
| Caseback | Sapphire, showing the movement, blued column wheel and star-shaped rotor, according to Zenith |
The manufacturer describes the El Primero 3600 as a column-wheel chronograph with a silicon escape wheel and lever. Zenith also specifies faceted hands, luminous markers and three concentrically decorated counters on the dial. These are the company’s descriptions, not independent findings about finishing or legibility. The model-specific details come from Zenith’s January 19, 2026 release.
How does the tenth-second chronograph work?
The central chronograph hand makes a full circuit of the dial every 10 seconds, rather than the more familiar 60 seconds. With the movement running at 5 Hz, this lets the display indicate tenths of a second. The elapsed minutes are read on the 60-minute counter at 6 o’clock, while the 60-second counter sits at 3 o’clock. Small seconds are separate, at 9 o’clock.

Zenith introduced this tenth-second chronograph arrangement on the steel DEFY Skyline Chronograph in 2024. That earlier platform release also lists a 60-hour reserve, 10 ATM water resistance and a quick strap-change system; the 2026 black ceramic announcement is the source for this reference’s specific specifications. See the 2024 steel-model announcement for that platform context.
Is the case coated, and does it come with a rubber strap?
Zenith says the black ceramic case and bracelet are coloured throughout rather than coated. That is the manufacturer’s description of the material and finish. The listed package includes both a black ceramic bracelet with a double folding clasp and a black rubber strap with a steel folding clasp. A quick strap-change mechanism is built into the case, according to Zenith.
The announcement establishes that the rubber strap is included with this watch; it does not establish separate availability or compatibility details for replacement straps. Zenith’s model release describes the supplied configuration.

For a useful comparison with another DEFY Skyline Chronograph or an integrated-bracelet sports chronograph, check the same attributes rather than relying on a broad category label:
Rank #4
- Case material and diameter
- Movement and chronograph readout, including how the elapsed time is displayed
- Power reserve and water-resistance rating
- Whether a bracelet, strap or both are included, and how the watch changes between them
- Price in the buyer’s region and verified availability from a retailer
Zenith’s LVMH Watch Week 2026 announcement also quoted CEO Benoît de Clerck: “This seventh edition of LVMH Watch Week highlights our ongoing commitment to the DEFY collection, a cornerstone of ZENITH.” The statement describes the collection’s place in the brand’s strategy; it is not a technical assessment of this particular watch. Zenith’s collection announcement contains the quote.
