Fitbit Ace LTE: The Smartwatch That Makes Fitness Fun for Kids

Fitbit Ace LTE turns movement into game progress while giving parents controlled calls, messages and location sharing. Here are the subscription, setup, battery and safety trade-offs.

Fitbit Ace LTE is a specialized first connected device for children age 7 and up. It combines parent-approved calling and messaging, location sharing, and movement-driven games without offering a smartphone’s open internet or app store. The trade-offs are substantial: Ace Pass is required, battery life is a claimed 16-plus hours, availability is limited to the United States (excluding Alaska and U.S. territories), and the watch cannot call emergency services.

What Ace LTE actually is

Ace LTE is a cellular kids’ smartwatch rather than a small adult Fitbit tracker. It has its own LTE connection for approved calls, messages and location features, while parents manage the device through the Fitbit Ace app. Setup still requires a parent’s compatible phone, Google Account, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

The watch also includes activity tracking, movement games, School Time scheduling, alarms, a microphone and speaker, and optional tap-to-pay functionality. Most communication and location features, as well as Fitbit Arcade, require an active Ace Pass. Google’s specifications and feature documentation and Ace Pass support page describe the requirements.

How movement becomes game progress

The defining idea is that activity does more than produce a step total. The watch detects movement such as steps, jumps and bounces, then turns that activity into Move Goal progress and virtual rewards. Movement can advance Fitbit Arcade games and help a child care for or customize a virtual character, including the watch’s “eejie” experience.

2-Pack Screen Protector Compatible with Fitbit Google Ace LTE Case, Tempered Glass All-Around Protective Screen Full Hard PC Cover Bumper Compatible for Fitbit Google Ace LTE Smart Watch (Black+Blck)
  • Tempered Glass Protection: Dual-layer tempered glass screen protector provides all-around shatter and scratch resistance.
  • Precise Fit: Designed for a seamless fit with the Fitbit Google Ace LTE smartwatch, ensuring full touch sensitivity.
  • Easy Installation: Includes installation tray for a simple, bubble-free application process.
  • Full Coverage: Raised bezels protect the screen from drops and bumps while maintaining a slim profile.
  • Value Pack: Includes 2 screen protectors for extended use or easy replacement.

Fitbit Arcade is included with Ace Pass, and Google says its games do not use in-app purchases: movement is the progression mechanism. That is a product design intended to make activity more appealing, not independent evidence that the watch increases children’s exercise. Whether the loop remains motivating after the novelty fades depends on the individual child.

Calling, messaging and location

Controlled contacts

Parents approve and manage contacts in the Fitbit Ace app. The watch supports up to 20 contacts, generally requiring those contacts to use the Fitbit Ace app on a compatible phone. Google’s standard setup does not let children freely communicate with younger friends under 13. Family group members and approved adult caregivers can be added within the supported account structure.

Location sharing has conditions

Parents can request the child’s location when location sharing is enabled. This is not guaranteed continuous tracking: Google says the watch must be powered on, recently active and connected to the internet. LTE coverage, signal conditions, airplane mode and other network limitations can prevent a location update. Google documents these location and service limitations.

Garmin Bounce™, Kids Smartwatch, Two-Way Text and Voice Messaging, Location Tracking, Green Burst
  • Kids smartwatch sends messages and tracks their location to help encourage an active lifestyle while offering parents peace of mind (active subscription and LTE connectivity required)
  • Durable, swim-friendly smartwatch features a bright color touchscreen display and up to 2 days of battery life between charges (connected feature usage and LTE network conditions will significantly impact battery life)
  • Easily stay in contact with your child via text and voice messaging from the Garmin Jr. app on your compatible smartphone to the Bounce smartwatch and from Bounce to the Garmin Jr. app (active subscription and LTE connectivity required)
  • Real-time location tracking lets you check in on your child’s whereabouts through the Garmin Jr. app on your compatible smartphone and even receive notifications when your child enters or leaves parent-defined boundaries (active subscription and LTE connectivity required)
  • For added peace of mind, the Assistance feature lets your child quickly trigger a message with their live location to their family contacts (requires setup and your child to be in an area with network coverage where data connectivity is available)

It is not an emergency phone

Ace LTE cannot call emergency services. It also cannot call another Ace LTE or a regular phone whose user has not installed the Fitbit Ace app. Google warns that calling, messaging and location sharing may not be reliable for emergencies. Ace LTE can delay the need for a smartphone, but it should not replace an emergency-capable phone or a family safety plan.

What Ace Pass costs and unlocks

Plan Listed U.S. price What it means
Monthly $9.99 per month Recurring service for one Ace LTE
Annual $119 per year About $0.88 less than twelve $9.99 monthly payments, before tax

An Ace Pass is required to activate the watch and complete setup, and each Ace LTE needs its own pass. The plan includes LTE connectivity, calling and messaging, GPS/location functions, Fitbit Arcade, software updates, and Bit Valley and Daily Quest updates. Ace Pass is separate from Fitbit Premium; an existing Fitbit Premium subscription does not activate Ace LTE.

Google says annual subscribers may receive a bonus Ace Band subject to the promotion and a 90-day redemption window. Treat that as a promotion rather than a permanent benefit. Without an active pass, the central LTE, communication, location and Arcade experience is unavailable.

Hardware, durability and health sensing

Specification Official value

Thickness 13.35 mm
Weight 28.03 g without the band
Display Color OLED, 333 ppi, DCI-P3
Cover glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3

Location and sensors GPS/GNSS with Google Location Accuracy; accelerometer, optical heart-rate sensor, altimeter, magnetometer, ambient-light sensor and gyroscope
Water resistance 50 meters / 5 ATM
Charging claim About 60% in 30 minutes and full in 70 minutes under Google’s stated conditions
Included Watch, protective bumper, band, USB-C charging cable, quick-start guide and sticker pack
U.S. warranty One year

Google’s battery estimate is approximately 16-plus hours, based on pre-production testing in 2023 with default settings. LTE use, calls, GPS, screen activity, temperature and battery age can shorten runtime, so many families should expect to charge daily.

The 5 ATM rating means water-resistant, not permanently waterproof. Google says resistance can decline through wear, damage, repairs or disassembly and recommends avoiding high-velocity or high-temperature water activities. The optical heart-rate sensor and activity metrics are not medical measurements; accuracy varies with physiology, fit, placement and movement. See Google’s technical specifications and limitations.

Phone, account and network requirements

  • Android 11 or newer, or iOS/iPadOS 16 or newer.
  • The Fitbit Ace app, a Google Account and Bluetooth enabled on the parent’s phone.
  • Wi-Fi for setup and updates; only 2.4GHz networks are supported, so a 5GHz-only network will fail.
  • A parent or Family Manager account for a child setup.
  • A supported U.S. Google Account region and a paid Ace Pass.

Android Go edition is not supported. The parent must perform setup on the parent’s phone even if the child has only a tablet or another device. Current availability is the United States excluding Alaska and U.S. territories; account region and feature eligibility matter in addition to LTE coverage. Google also lists extra state restrictions for the Friends feature: Texas for users 13 and older, plus Louisiana and Utah. Check Google’s current compatibility and regional requirements.

sylacor Charger Compatible with Google Fitbit Ace LTE
  • Compatibility: The sylacor Charger Dock is designed for the Fitbit Google Ace LTE Kids Smartwatch. (Note: This product includes only the replacement charger).

Complete setup path

  1. Charge the watch and parent phone.
  2. Enable Bluetooth on the parent phone.
  3. Install or update the Fitbit Ace app.
  4. Turn on the watch with the upper-right button.
  5. Tap Tap to begin and choose a language.
  6. Open the Fitbit Ace app and sign in with the parent’s Google Account.
  7. Select My child will wear the watch.
  8. Create or select the child’s Google profile.
  9. Select the monthly or annual Ace Pass.
  10. Enter payment details and purchase the plan.
  11. Pair the watch using the matching six-digit code.
  12. Connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
  13. Authorize the child’s account and eSIM activation.
  14. Grant notification and microphone permissions.
  15. Set the parent display name.
  16. Configure contacts, School Time, location sharing and other controls.
  17. Complete the tutorial and install available updates.

The expected result is a restart, eSIM activation and the watch’s onboarding experience. Google’s setup guide contains the current screens and permissions.

Setup problems and recovery

  • The app cannot be found: Check that the Google or Apple account is associated with a supported country.
  • No pairing code appears: Confirm that the watch name matches the device selected in the app.
  • Codes do not match: Move other Ace LTE watches away and retry.
  • Wi-Fi fails: Use a 2.4GHz network rather than a 5GHz-only network.
  • Calls or notifications fail: Recheck microphone and notification permissions.
  • Location is unavailable: Confirm that the watch is powered on, recently active, online and not in airplane mode.
  • The watch was reset or replaced: Google says the Ace Pass is linked to the child’s account, so the same account does not necessarily require a new subscription.

Parental controls and School Time

Through the Fitbit Ace app, parents can call or message the child, approve contacts, view available location information, reset the child’s PIN and manage device settings. School Time can mute notifications and restrict games during scheduled hours. It is a configurable tool, not a universal solution to school policy; families must set the schedule correctly and follow the school’s own rules.

Tap to Pay is optional and limited. It requires compatible cards and internet access, and supervised users may need a separate paid membership associated with the payment card. It should not be treated as an automatic allowance feature.

Privacy and children’s data

For children under 13, Google says Ace LTE can collect and store the child’s name and Google Account data, step count, heart-rate data, location, approved contacts, call and message logs, Friends-feature connections when enabled, device identifiers and IP address. Google describes uses including providing and improving the service, security, analytics and measurement, with limited sharing outside Google for consent, family-group use, external processing, legal reasons and relevant payment processing.

“No public sharing” does not mean no data collection. Parents should read Google’s children’s-account and Fitbit Ace privacy materials before enabling location, communications, Friends or payments. Account supervision and privacy treatment can change when a child reaches 13 or the applicable age of consent. Google’s children’s data information explains the categories and uses.

Who should buy Ace LTE?

It is a good fit when a child:

  • Is at least 7 and wants games and customization more than advanced apps.
  • Needs parent-controlled calls, messages and location sharing.
  • Is not ready for a smartphone or open app store.
  • Lives in the supported U.S. region.
  • Has a parent willing to manage a Google child account and recurring plan.
  • Can tolerate frequent charging and may respond to movement-based incentives.

Choose something else when a family:

  • Needs emergency calling.
  • Does not want a recurring fee or Google data processing.
  • Needs multi-day battery life.
  • Lives outside the supported region or has only 5GHz Wi-Fi.
  • Wants unrestricted friend-to-friend communication.
  • Expects advanced sports metrics, sleep analysis or adult Fitbit features.
  • Expects location to work without power or an internet connection.

How it compares with alternatives

Alternative Best understood as Key difference from Ace LTE
Garmin Bounce Child-focused GPS/LTE smartwatch More conventional kids’ smartwatch positioning; Ace LTE’s standout feature is movement-driven gaming.
TickTalk 5 Communication-first kids’ LTE watch More centered on calling, messaging and GPS than on a Fitbit-style activity game loop.
COSMO JrTrack line Safety and communication-oriented cellular watches Typically a better conceptual fit when communication is the priority; Ace LTE differentiates with movement games.
Apple Watch with Family Setup Broader smartwatch for iPhone households More apps and capabilities, but greater complexity and Apple-hardware dependence, with less child-specific gamification.

These products are not interchangeable. Compare emergency capabilities, service plans, regional support, battery expectations and the parent’s phone ecosystem before choosing.

Verdict

Ace LTE is one of the more distinctive options for parents who want controlled communication plus a genuinely kid-oriented activity system. Its movement-to-game design is more specific than a step counter, while School Time and approved contacts limit the experience compared with a phone. The subscription, daily charging, U.S.-only availability, privacy trade-offs and lack of emergency calling make it a specialized first smartwatch rather than a universal choice.
