Choose Fitbit Edge for exercise focus, battery life, or iPhone compatibility
Edge is positioned between a basic band and an advanced smartwatch: it has a display, physical side button, glanceable tiles, and selected connected features without being framed as a full app-centered watch. Google lists Maps, media controls, and call and message notifications alongside its fitness and health tracking.

Its headline advantage is battery life. Google says Edge can last up to seven days, but that is an approximate maximum under specified testing conditions—not a promise of a week for every user. GPS use and individual settings can affect real-world results. Google also claims 40% improved GPS tracking accuracy over previous generations; that is a company comparison, not an independently verified head-to-head result.

Edge is also the option for an iPhone owner: Google lists compatibility with most iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later. The Pixel Watch 5 requires an Android phone, so it is not a comparable choice for iPhone users.
What Edge tracks
Google lists heart rate, sleep, recovery, and other region-dependent health metrics. Its ECG app is available only in select countries and is not intended for people under 22. Health trends are informational wellness features, not diagnostic tools. Coaching and some other features require Google Health Premium.

Choose Pixel Watch 5 for a more capable smartwatch
Pixel Watch 5 is the better fit when you want your wearable to do more than support workouts and show notifications. Google highlights Gemini Intelligence, At a Glance updates, Raise to Talk, one-handed gestures, apps, and Google Health features. That broader connected experience is the main reason to pay more for it; the choice is not simply about which device tracks exercise.
The watch comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes. Google’s stated battery estimates are up to 30 hours and 40 hours respectively, so expect more frequent charging than Edge’s advertised maximum. Google also claims 2x greater GPS accuracy in the toughest environments versus previous generations, based on internal testing with pre-production devices in July 2026—not an independent comparison with Edge.

Health features have limits
Google describes ECG and heart-rate features, Health Guardian trends, and emergency-related functions. Availability and limitations apply, and these functions are not substitutes for medical devices or professional care. Health Guardian features are not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent conditions. Google warns that breathing emergency detection may miss emergencies; it has user limitations and depends on emergency calling and connectivity.
How much more does the Pixel Watch 5 cost?
At the announced US starting prices, Edge costs $179.99, compared with $399 for the 41mm Pixel Watch 5 and $429 for the 45mm model. That is a $219.01 difference versus the 41mm watch and $249.01 versus the 45mm watch, before any accessories or paid membership. The Pixel Watch 5’s premium makes sense if you will use its smartwatch interface, Gemini, and Google apps; if your priority is workouts, health tracking, and fewer charging stops, those extra capabilities may not justify the added spend.
