Google ended support for standalone Fitbit accounts on May 19, 2026; continuing to use Google Health requires a Google Account. The July 15, 2026 date to download or delete data before Google began processing deletions has also passed, and whether an unmigrated account can still be moved is uncertain. If you still have access, try the official in-app flow and check your account’s options before making decisions about your data.
What happened to Fitbit accounts?
Fitbit accounts and Google Accounts were historically separate. Google instructed Fitbit account holders to move their account to a Google Account through the Google Health app to continue using the service. The Fitbit app became the Google Health app beginning May 19, 2026.
| Date | What it means |
|---|---|
| May 19, 2026 | Google ended access to Fitbit with a standalone Fitbit account and began using the Google Health app name. |
| July 15, 2026 | Google said it would begin processing deletions of legacy data for accounts not moved. The stated opportunity to download or delete data before processing began has passed. |
Google’s migration page says some users may still be able to move their account during deletion processing. Another Google page says users could move Fitbit to a Google Account until July 15. These statements do not guarantee that migration remains available to every account. Check the official Google Health migration help page and your in-app options.
How do I move my Fitbit account to a Google Account?

- Open the Google Health app.
- Sign in with your Fitbit account.
- Select the notification offering to move your account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the move using a Google Account.
Google says the move typically takes a few minutes and can be canceled until the final step. After completion, it cannot be undone. Review the data and setup choices and confirm the destination account before completing the transfer. Google says historical Fitbit data selected for migration is retained.
Can I migrate a Fitbit account made with Gmail?
Yes, if Google still offers the migration flow for the account. A Fitbit account created with a Gmail address is not automatically a Google Account migration; Google says it still needs to be moved.
- Sign in to the Google Health app with the Gmail address used for Fitbit.
- Open Settings.
- If a migration notification appears, select it and follow the instructions.
Google says a Google Workspace account cannot be linked to Google Health. If you encounter that restriction, Google directs users to try a different Google Account or create one.
Family accounts
Moving an adult’s Fitbit account does not move every family member. Google says children younger than 13—or younger than the applicable age in their country—move with the parent or guardian. Older children and other adults must move their own accounts.
To keep a family connected in a Google family group, the adult moving the account must already have migrated, be a main or secondary Fitbit family guardian, and be the Google family group manager. Check Google’s current family-migration instructions for account-specific steps and errors before changing family membership.
Will I lose my Fitbit data if I don’t migrate?
Google said users could download or delete legacy data before it began processing deletions on July 15, 2026. That date has passed, and Google does not guarantee that export or migration remains available for every unmigrated account. Its migration page says some users may still be able to move their account during deletion processing, so availability is account-specific.

For Google Health users, Google says data can be exported from Google Account Data and Privacy settings in a commonly used file format. Google lists activities, body, food, and sleep data among the available categories. Do not assume that this export route is still available for an unmigrated legacy account.
Google says Fitbit health and wellness data is not used for Google Ads. It also says data moved to a Google Account is handled under Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Health’s additional terms. These are Google’s stated privacy practices.

What changed in the Google Health app?
The app change is more than a new name. Google’s guide describes a redesigned app with Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health tabs for users with a Fitbit device or Pixel Watch, and says Fitbit Premium became Google Health Premium.
Google also documents feature differences: badges are no longer supported and historical badges will be deleted; Groups and Community Feed have been removed; friend profiles and social features have changed; and Lifescan connections have been discontinued. Some third-party connections, including Strava and Withings, may need to be updated. If you rely on a particular feature or connection, consult Google’s current instructions before proceeding.
What should I do if I missed the deadline?
- Open or update the Google Health app and try signing in with your original Fitbit account.
- If a migration prompt appears, review the destination Google Account and data choices before completing the irreversible move.
- If you cannot sign in, the prompt is unavailable, or the account has a family or compatibility issue, contact Google support.
- Check Google Account Data and Privacy settings for export options if your account has been moved to Google Health.
Because the July 15 cutoff has passed, do not assume legacy data can still be downloaded or recovered. Google says some accounts may remain eligible to migrate during deletion processing, but it does not promise availability for every account.
