Time+Tide’s five-watch Dan Henry selection spans a dress chronograph, an alarm chronograph, a diver and two racing-inspired chronographs. Its standout is the 1937 Dress Chronograph: Eric Wind’s “spectacular dial” praise, as reported by Time+Tide, refers to the watch’s visual appeal—not a technical test. The feature was published on 3 August 2020, so its prices and descriptions are historical; the brand’s current 1937 listing provides a more recent reference.
What the five-watch selection covers
These are editorial favourites from Time+Tide’s 3 August 2020 feature, not a ranking based on standardized comparisons or side-by-side testing. The models suit different tastes and uses, so the most useful way to choose among them is by style, complication and the specifications of the exact variant currently offered.

| 1972 Chrono Alarm | Chronograph with alarm | Black PVD-coated steel; 41mm case | USD $350 |
| 1970 Automatic Diver | Diver | Blue, 40mm steel example; super-compressor-style design; 200m rating; Seiko NH35 automatic movement; 41-hour power reserve | USD $290 |
| 1962 Racing Chronograph | Racing chronograph | 39mm panda-dial example; three sub-dials; twisted lugs | USD $270 |
| 1964 Gran Turismo Chronograph | Chronograph with a Gran Turismo-inspired look | Slate-grey bicompax dial with brushed detail and a blue seconds hand | USD $260 |
| 1937 Dress Chronograph | Dress chronograph | Described as an elegant design drawing on historic chronographs, including the Patek Philippe Ref. 130 | USD $270 |
All five prices and the descriptions in this table are from Time+Tide’s 2020 article, not current quotes or guaranteed specifications for today’s variants. Dan Henry’s current collection lists the 1972 as the Maverick and continues to list the 1970, 1962 and 1964 models. Check the precise reference and variant before relying on dimensions, movement, water resistance or price.
Why the 1937 dial drew attention
The 2020 feature singled out a brushed silver version of the 1937. Time+Tide reported that watch writer Eric Wind posted it on his personal Instagram account with the caption: “Just a spectacular dial … Amazing to get a watch this beautiful for only $270.” The quoted price and praise belong to that 2020 context. “Spectacular” is a subjective reaction to the dial, not an objective evaluation or an independently verified current endorsement.

The current official 1937 Dress Chronograph page describes a 38mm stainless-steel watch with a silver sector dial, applied gold numerals and a tachymeter scale. It lists a Seiko Japan VK64 meca-quartz movement, K1 mineral crystal and 3ATM/30m water resistance. The maker also states that the model is limited to 1,937 pieces; that is the brand’s edition claim, not an independent count of watches sold.
The same official page listed the watch at USD $300 and in stock when accessed in 2026. Price and availability can change, so consult the listing for the selected variant before buying. The feature’s USD $270 figure is historical and should not be treated as the current price.

Which Dan Henry model should you choose?
Start with the role you want the watch to play, then verify the variant’s current specifications and price. The five picks are not interchangeable: a diver, a dress watch and a chronograph with an alarm answer different needs.
- For a dressier chronograph: consider the 1937. Its current official listing gives a 38mm case and a silver sector dial; check the listing for the specific variant and current availability.
- For a diver-style watch: the 1970 Automatic Diver is the selection’s diver. Its 40mm size, 200m rating, NH35 movement and 41-hour reserve describe the blue example in the 2020 feature, not necessarily every current version.
- For an alarm complication: the 1972 Chrono Alarm is the relevant pick. The official collection currently presents the 1972 as the Maverick; confirm the exact model and functions on its product page.
- For a racing look: compare the 1962’s panda-dial layout and three sub-dials with the 1964’s slate-grey bicompax design. The specific finishes described are the examples featured in 2020.
Before choosing, compare the exact variant’s case dimensions and fit, movement, water-resistance rating, dial and finish, and current price. Those details can vary across versions and listings; the older feature is a useful guide to its five picks, not a substitute for current product specifications.
