Forstner says the style became associated with early astronauts; the company’s current straight-end Komfit listing is the clearest modern product match, though it showed as sold out when checked on October 8, 2026.
What is the Forstner Komfit?
The Komfit is an expandable mesh watch bracelet, not a watch. Forstner’s current straight-end version is made of stainless steel and is listed with two length choices: “Original” and “Regular.” Check that the bracelet’s end style and length suit your watch before ordering; a straight-end bracelet is not automatically the right fit for every case.
Forstner’s listing showed a price of $135 and “Sale Sold out” when checked on October 8, 2026. Stock and displayed prices can change, so confirm both on the Forstner Komfit product page.
Why is it associated with astronauts?
Forstner’s company history says the company began as Forstner Chain Corporation around 1920 and developed the Komfit design. It describes early astronauts pairing personally purchased Speedmasters with Komfit or successor JB Champion bands. The same company history says Jacoby Bender acquired Forstner around 1963, after which the style continued under the JB Champion name. These are Forstner’s historical claims, not independent proof of NASA procurement.

The exact bracelet attribution is disputed in secondary watch-history accounts. A WatchProSite digest distinguishes Walter Schirra’s personal Komfit from later JB Champion bracelets and challenges the simpler description of the early band as NASA-issued. NASA’s reviewed mission records establish mission chronology, but do not identify the bracelet’s make or how it was obtained. It is therefore more accurate to say that Forstner associates the Komfit style with astronauts than to call the bracelet a NASA-issued item.
NASA’s Speedmaster qualification date is a separate fact: Omega’s 2025 retrospective gives March 1, 1965 as the date the Speedmaster was flight-qualified for all manned space missions. How to check whether the Komfit will fit your watch
- Measure the lug width. Check the distance between the watch’s lugs and compare it with the bracelet configuration on the product page.
- Confirm the end style. The listing is for a straight-end bracelet. Compare that shape with your watch and decide whether it gives the fit and appearance you want.
- Choose a length. Forstner lists “Original” and “Regular.” Use the maker’s sizing information and your wrist measurement to choose between them.
- Verify stock and price. Because the listing showed sold out when checked on October 8, 2026, confirm the current status directly with Forstner before making plans to buy.
Is the Komfit the same bracelet as Forstner’s 1450 reissue?
No. Forstner’s July 21, 2025 announcement describes a separate 1450 bracelet designed for the first-generation Omega Speedmaster First Omega in Space. Its stated specifications include a 19 mm width, 316L stainless steel, solid links and solid end links, screw link removal, and a push-button milled clasp with tool-free micro-adjustment. Those are features of the 1450, not the Komfit. The two bracelets have different designs and fit contexts; do not assume they are interchangeable. The modern Komfit listing shows that Forstner offers the style as a product, but it did not indicate stock at the time checked. That is different from a confirmed in-stock release, and it does not make a modern bracelet a vintage original. If you want one, check the maker’s page for current availability and verify that you are looking at the Komfit rather than a separate Forstner bracelet.
