The Tiffany Blue Nautilus 5711/1A-018 was a 170-watch anniversary edition and an unusual closing chapter for Patek Philippe’s 5711. Its dual-signed dial, planned retirement, launch-era allocation challenge and first watch’s $6,503,500 charity-auction result each tell a different part of the story. Phillips described the 5711 as due to leave the collection in 2022; it did not formally designate every Tiffany edition as the model’s final version.
1. The green-dial 5711 was not the last word
After Patek Philippe announced green-dial 5711 variants, the Tiffany Blue 5711/1A-018 became a more striking final chapter. Time+Tide called it the model’s “real final victory lap,” an editorial description rather than an official product designation. Phillips said in December 2021 that the 5711 would be retired from the collection in 2022, placing the special edition at the end of the model’s run without establishing that every watch in the 170-piece series was formally named the final edition.
That distinction matters: the watch was an exceptional closing release, but “final victory lap” is interpretation, not Patek Philippe terminology.
2. Tiffany Blue and a 170-year retail relationship
The exact reference is 5711/1A-018. Phillips identifies a 40 mm stainless-steel case and automatic caliber 26-330 S C. Its lacquer dial is Tiffany Blue, with “Patek Philippe” at 12 o’clock and “Tiffany & Co.” at 6. The caseback bears the inscription “170th Anniversary 1851-2021 Tiffany & Co. – Patek Philippe.” Phillips says the first U.S. retail agreement between the companies dates to 1851 and describes Tiffany as the only retailer whose name appears on a Patek Philippe dial.

The 170 watches commemorated 170 years of partnership. Phillips also noted 120 m water resistance and said each bracelet involved 55 production steps. Those details make the edition more than a dial-color variation: it joined the Nautilus design to a specific retail history and anniversary.
3. The launch price and allocation were part of the story
Time+Tide reported a launch-era retail price of $52,635 in December 2021. That is historical reporting, not evidence of current retail availability or a present-day market value. Phillips separately listed $52,635 as its good-faith estimate of the auction lot’s fair market value for a charitable-contribution note; that estimate served a different purpose and should not be confused with a current valuation.

The allocation challenge was already apparent at launch. Time+Tide quoted Patek Philippe president Thierry Stern: “It may be a big problem. They may not realise how difficult it’s going to be to choose the clients.” The limited production and distribution plan meant access was constrained from the outset, rather than offered as a broadly available standard Nautilus.
4. The first watch went to auction for charity
Phillips announced on 7 December 2021 that the first example would be auctioned on 11 December, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting The Nature Conservancy. Its lot record gives the realized sale price as $6,503,500. That figure belongs to the first watch sold for charity; it is neither the launch retail price nor a general valuation for all 170 examples.

The other watches were announced for Tiffany locations in New York, Beverly Hills and San Francisco. So the edition combined tightly limited retail distribution with a singular public auction for its first example.

The caseback inscription documents the anniversary and the two brands’ names. Time+Tide’s author also pointed to an alleged vertical “LVMH” within the “1” in the date and speculated about its possible significance. That observation and interpretation are not established by Phillips’s account, and they do not prove what the partnership’s future would be.

For the watch itself, the better-grounded story is already unusual: a historically linked retailer received a rare dual-signed dial, the release marked the 170th anniversary, and it arrived as the 5711 was due to leave the collection.
