Fratello’s editors named six themes from Watches and Wonders 2025: smaller and dressier watches, stone dials, brown dials, jumping-hour watches, blue ceramic and precious metals. This is the hosts’ qualitative reading of the releases they saw in Geneva. It is not a market study, a ranking or a sales analysis.
The six themes from the episode
In the episode, Nacho is joined by Daan and Lex to look for patterns across the new releases. Fratello’s written synopsis, dated April 17, 2025, lists these categories:
- Smaller, dressier watches
- Stone dials
- Brown dials
- Jumping-hour watches
- Blue ceramic
- Precious metals
Fratello frames them as things the editors expect to see more of as the year goes on. The article describes them as “the influential factors that shape what watch brands will be doing over the coming months.” That is the publisher’s wording, not a quote from one host.
How the themes group together
The synopsis doesn’t group them, so this grouping is ours and not the hosts’.
#1 Best Overall
- Size and formality: smaller, dressier watches.
- Dial surfaces and colors: stone dials and brown dials.
- Display complication: jumping hours.
- Case and bracelet materials: blue ceramic and precious metals.
What the source does not establish
The written page gives only the list. It has no example watches for each theme, no measurements and no ranking. It also offers no evidence that these patterns extend beyond what the hosts saw at the fair. It cites no statistics on prevalence, sales or growth, so none should be inferred.
Fratello also holds back the hosts’ full reasoning and sends readers to the episode. Which brands the hosts discussed, who argued what, and how strongly they felt about each theme are therefore not documented here. Treat the list as a set of prompts to watch for, not as a forecast.
Rank #2
Wrist checks are separate from the trends
The episode includes a wrist check, and the article describes these watches. They are personal context, not recommendations and not examples of the six themes.
- Lex: a Grand Seiko SBGX341, described as an angular quartz watch he has owned for four years.
- Daan: a 1968 Seiko 6105-8000. The article says he previously owned its modern counterpart, the Seiko Prospex SPB317.
- Nacho: a Tudor Pelagos FXD on a burgundy NATO strap. The strap is presented as a styling choice, not a trend.
Where to find the episode, and which date applies
Listing dates differ by platform. Fratello’s article is dated April 17, 2025. The YouTube listing reports April 16, 2025. Amazon Music lists April 17, 2025, with a 32-minute runtime. The gap is most likely a publishing-time difference between platforms, but the sources don’t say.
Using the list
The list works best as a checklist when you browse the 2025 releases. Ask whether a new model fits one of the six themes and how it executes it. If you want the hosts’ actual examples, listen to the episode. Fratello also invites readers to say what the hosts missed: “Did you spot anything that we didn’t cover?”
