Fratello’s July 4, 2024, episode asks why its hosts have recently noticed fewer traditional watches on people’s wrists. It offers personal sightings and possible explanations—not evidence that watch-wearing has declined overall.
What is Fratello Talks asking?
In the episode “Where Did All The Watches Go?”, hosts Nacho, RJ, and Daan compare what they have noticed in daily life. The question is about the visibility of traditional watches in particular places, not a measured count of how many people wear watches.
RJ says he saw few watches on recent trips to London and Disneyland Paris. Nacho recalls seeing watches at the Dutch Pen Show in Utrecht and in Madrid, while Daan says he sees many in Amsterdam. These contrasting impressions make location worth discussing, but they do not establish that one city has a higher watch-wearing rate than another.
Why might watches seem less visible?

- Different kinds of wristwear: Some people may choose smartwatches or fitness devices instead of conventional watches.
- Occasional wear: A person may keep a traditional watch for particular events rather than wear it every day.
- Setting and attention: A crowded destination or a diverse city can shape what one observer happens to notice. A personal impression is not a count of everyone present.
- Theft concerns: The hosts raise caution about wearing a watch in some situations as a possible factor, not a demonstrated cause.
Comments from readers add examples of people noticing Apple Watches, Fitbits, WHOOP bands, G-Shocks, or bare wrists, as well as traditional watches in particular cities and workplaces. They show how experiences differ; they are individual accounts, not representative survey results.
What the episode does—and does not—establish
The episode is a conversation prompted by the hosts’ observations. It supplies no population-level statistic on how often people wear watches, smartwatch adoption, or watch theft. It therefore cannot show whether traditional-watch use is rising, falling, or holding steady, or determine why watches may seem less common to a particular observer.

That distinction matters: “I see fewer watches here” describes an experience, while “fewer people wear watches” is a broader claim that requires comparable evidence across people, places, and time. Fratello’s episode offers the first, not the second.

The wrist check is a side detail, not a buying recommendation.
