The list is an editorial selection by Jorg Weppelink, not a tested or exhaustive ranking. Its prices are historical article figures, not current quotes.

Prices and watch details in this table are those reported by Fratello in 2025. They should not be read as current offers. The Certina’s 300m rating and ISO certification are specific to the 40.5mm product listed on Certina’s UK site.
1. Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SPB513 and SPB515
These Speedtimers are automatic sports watches with an internal countdown scale, not chronographs. Fratello reports a 39.5mm case, 12mm thickness, Seiko 6R55 calibre and 72-hour power reserve. It listed both references at €990 in its September 2025 article.
Seiko’s official product page identifies the SPB513 and SPB515, names the 6R55 movement and notes September 2025 availability. The countdown timer is operated using the crown at 4 o’clock. That makes the watch useful for timing a set interval, but it does not provide the start-stop elapsed-time function of a chronograph. Seiko’s official SPB513/SPB515 product information.

2. Tissot PRX Powermatic 80
The PRX is the integrated-bracelet option in the group. Fratello covers both 40mm and 35mm versions, reports an 80-hour reserve and gives the 40mm model a thickness of 10.9mm. Its listed price was €775 in 2025.
Size and configuration matter more than the family name alone: decide between the 35mm and 40mm case, then check the specific dial and bracelet combination. Fratello’s figure is not evidence of the current price for every PRX Powermatic 80 configuration.

3. Certina DS Action Diver 40.5mm
For a diver-style watch, Fratello’s 40.5mm DS Action Diver pairs a Powermatic 80.611 automatic movement with an 80-hour reserve. The article describes it as 14.1mm thick and listed it at €905 on NATO or €955 on a bracelet in 2025.
Certina’s UK product page confirms a 40.50mm diameter, 14.10mm height, 48.30mm lug-to-lug measurement, 300m water resistance and ISO 6425:2018 certification for the listed 40.5mm reference. These specifications should not be generalized to every DS Action variant. Certina’s UK product page.
Rank #3
- Resin watch featuring digital dial with day/date display, chronograph, dual time, and backlight
- 27 millimeter case with acrylic dial window
- Resin band with buckle closure
- Water resistant to 100 meter (330 feet): In general, suitable for swimming and snorkeling, but not diving
A separate 38mm titanium variant
Fratello also mentions a 38mm titanium version, listed at €995 on NATO and €1,095 on a titanium bracelet in 2025. The bracelet configuration exceeds the €1,000 ceiling; the NATO price falls below it. This is a different configuration from the 40.5mm watch described above.
4. Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm
The Hamilton is the hand-wound choice. Fratello reports a 38mm case, 9.5mm thickness, 47mm lug-to-lug length and an H-50 movement with an 80-hour reserve. Its article does not give a price for this pick, so the shortlist alone cannot establish that a particular configuration is under €1,000.
Rank #4
- Sport watch with blue dial border, rectangular dial window, perpetual calendar functions, and alarm feature
- 26 mm resin case with mineral dial window
- Quartz movement with digital display
- Ribbed resin band with buckle closure
- Water resistant
Unlike the automatic models here, this watch must be wound by hand. That distinction is central to choosing it: the appeal is the manual-winding format, not a longer reserve than the other watches on this list.

Fratello presents the C65 Dune Aeolian as an everyday, Explorer-style option. It reports a 38mm steel case, 11.9mm thickness, 43.7mm lug-to-lug measurement, Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and 38-hour reserve.

In Fratello’s 2025 pricing, the canvas version was €950 and the leather version €965, while the bracelet version was €1,165. The two strap configurations fit the article’s budget framing; the bracelet does not.
Quick Recap
How to choose among them
- Choose by purpose: the Seiko adds an internal countdown scale; the PRX emphasizes an integrated-bracelet design; the Certina is the diver; the Hamilton is hand-wound; and the Christopher Ward is the everyday steel option.
- Check fit, not just diameter: case diameter, thickness and lug-to-lug length describe different aspects of how a watch may wear. The published measurements here are not interchangeable.
- Compare movement and reserve: four picks are automatic, while the Hamilton is hand-wound. Reported reserves range from 38 hours for the Christopher Ward to 80 hours for the Tissot, Certina and Hamilton; the Seiko is listed at 72 hours.
- Verify the exact configuration and current price: the Christopher Ward bracelet and 38mm titanium Certina bracelet cross the €1,000 mark in Fratello’s 2025 figures, while their strap alternatives do not. Those historical figures do not confirm today’s price or availability.
