French artist Romaric André gave its markers, lettering and moonphase a hand-drawn, slightly askew appearance to make a point about the human work behind Frederique Constant’s hand-assembled watches.
Why does the seconde/seconde/ dial look handwritten?
The dial turns a manufacturing claim into a visual joke. Its applied hour markers appear unevenly positioned, while the logo and date have handwritten-style lettering and the moon and stars look hand-drawn. The effect is deliberate: the design evokes human imperfection and artisanal work, not a defective dial or careless assembly.
The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH describes the idea as using “a bit of human error and uneven typography” to highlight the handcrafted aspect of watchmaking. The watch’s caseback carries the brand’s line: “How do we tell the world that manual-assembly is at the core of our Manufacture? We asked artist seconde/seconde/. He took it too far.”
André has described the tension behind the concept: “As watch lovers, we’re looking for perfection… but when it becomes too perfect, we start to regret the lack of soul, the lack of connection with the ‘artisanal roots’ of watchmaking.” His point is not that this watch is less carefully made; it is that a deliberately imperfect visual language can make craftsmanship more noticeable.

Who made the Frederique Constant seconde/seconde/ watch?
Frederique Constant collaborated with French artist Romaric André, who works as seconde/seconde/, on two limited editions of the Slimline Moonphase Date Manufacture. The collaboration was announced in 2024. The concept links the artist’s playful treatment of the dial to the brand’s emphasis on manual assembly. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry FH’s coverage summarizes that design rationale; Frederique Constant Japan’s announcement gives details for the steel edition.
What is the difference between FC-705SOC4S2 and FC-705SOC4S6?
The two references share the same basic 42 mm stainless-steel case and FC-705 movement. Their principal differences are the dial accents, edition size and original sales channel.

Frederique Constant Japan’s page for the steel FC-705SOC4S6 is headed “SOLD OUT.” That is the status shown on the official Japan page, not a statement about worldwide stock or secondary-market listings. The page also records the Japanese Boutique Tokyo-only offer and ¥605,000 tax-included price at launch.
If considering a pre-owned example, verify the exact reference, condition, provenance and seller independently. A past launch channel or a current marketplace listing does not by itself establish that a seller is an authorized retailer or that a watch is available new.
