What Huawei announced in May 2026
Huawei’s May 7 launch in Bangkok covered seven products: the MatePad Pro Max, WATCH FIT 5, WATCH FIT 5 Pro, WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN Spring Edition, WATCH KIDS X1, WATCH KIDS X1 Pro and nova 15 Max. The tablet and adult watches are the main products for shoppers comparing premium devices; the children’s watches and phone broadened the launch but are aimed at different needs.
This was an addition to Huawei’s 2026 lineup, not the company’s only tablet announcement of the year. Its February launch included the MatePad Mini, and Huawei’s event listings later included the MatePad Air. The February event listing and Huawei’s event calendar show that broader chronology.
What “stylus-ready” means for the MatePad Pro Max
Huawei lists the MatePad Pro Max as compatible with both the M-Pencil Pro and the third-generation M-Pencil in its stylus compatibility guide. That establishes supported pen options; it does not establish that either pen is packed with every tablet. Box contents, bundles and prices are market-specific, so confirm the precise model and retailer listing before buying.

Compatibility is also not the same as an optimized or included accessory. The M-Pencil Pro is designed to add pressure-sensitive writing and drawing, shortcuts and gestures, but features can depend on the tablet model and software. Huawei’s M-Pencil Pro product page describes magnetic pairing and charging on supported tablets, a quick button that can open Huawei Notes or another selected app, a pinch gesture for a radial menu, rotation controls and tactile feedback. Huawei also claims more than 10,000 pressure-sensing levels and low-latency input; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance measurements.
In practical terms, pressure response can vary a stroke while a shortcut or radial menu can reduce trips to the screen. Rotation and tactile feedback are intended to make supported tools easier to control. Those benefits depend on compatible apps and software, and should not be assumed to work identically across Huawei tablets or third-party apps. NearLink is Huawei’s connection technology; its presence alone is not evidence of better real-world performance than competing pen systems.

Pairing and charging the pen
For the MatePad Pro Max, Huawei’s pairing and charging instructions specify the following:
- Align the stylus notch with the side of the tablet that has the volume buttons.
- Attach the pen to the magnetic connector on the tablet’s right side and wait for the pairing prompt.
- If no prompt appears, shift the stylus slightly to find the magnetic position that connects most strongly.
- Charge the pen by attaching it to the tablet or its charger.
- Check its battery under Settings > Accessibility features > Stylus or Settings > Stylus, depending on the software version.
Huawei’s general stylus guidance also describes opening Notepad from the screen-off state by tapping or writing, and double-tapping the lower stylus area to switch between the eraser and the previous tool on supported setups. If a feature is missing, check the tablet’s software version and model compatibility before concluding that the pen is faulty; Huawei’s compatibility table lists model-specific software requirements rather than one requirement for the whole MatePad range.

How the announced watches differ
The launch names indicate distinct product tiers, but the global event listing does not provide a full technical comparison. Huawei’s available launch summary does not establish screen specifications, battery estimates, sensors, GPS configurations, phone compatibility, cellular options or the exact upgrades in the Pro model. It would be misleading to infer those details from “Pro” or “Ultimate Design” alone.

Huawei’s Malaysian terms confirm distinct local campaigns for the WATCH FIT 5 series and the WATCH ULTIMATE DESIGN Spring Edition, but a campaign in Malaysia does not establish a price, offer or sale date elsewhere. Who might find the tablet and watches useful?
For notes, study and creative work
The MatePad Pro Max’s pen compatibility makes it a candidate for handwritten notes, drawing and PDF markup, provided the required pen and apps are available in your market. Check the actual app catalog and whether the tools you need work fully in your region before treating it as a replacement for an iPad or Galaxy Tab. The M-Pencil Pro’s supported gestures and pressure features are most relevant when your chosen apps use them.
For work and a Huawei-device setup
A tablet paired with a keyboard can suit document editing and presentations, but tablet software is not automatically a substitute for every desktop application, peripheral or file-management workflow. Huawei’s MatePad 11.5 S 2026 materials mention WPS Office, Filmora, a detachable keyboard and SuperHub; these are context about that specific model, not confirmed features of the MatePad Pro Max. Check the Pro Max’s own regional listing for its keyboard configuration and cross-device functions rather than transferring specifications between models. For fitness, premium design or family use
The WATCH FIT models are the relevant pair to compare for everyday fitness and smartwatch use, but the available launch summary is not enough to decide which one has the sensors or connectivity you need. The Spring Edition is a distinct premium-design option, not a value alternative whose extra cost can be justified from its name alone. Parents considering the X1 models should verify local connectivity, parental features and service availability before purchase.
Check the market, software and bundle before ordering
Huawei’s global event announcement is not proof that each product is sold in every country. Nor does it establish a universal price or package. Before ordering, check the local product page or retailer listing for these details:
- Availability and price: Confirm the exact country, currency, sale period and seller. Do not apply a Malaysian launch promotion to another market.
- What is in the box: Verify whether the M-Pencil, keyboard, charger or other accessory is included in the precise SKU. A compatible pen may still be a separate purchase.
- Apps and ecosystem: Confirm that required office, creative, school or work apps are available and fully functional in your region. SuperHub and similar cross-device tools are more useful if you already use Huawei devices.
- Watch-phone fit: Check the exact watch’s support for your phone and the local availability of calling, notifications, payments and apps. Do not assume iPhone and non-Huawei Android support matches Huawei-phone support.
- Ongoing ownership: Look for the local update policy, warranty, service coverage, and replacement accessory availability. Do not assume a specific software-support period unless Huawei states it for your model and market.
For comparison, an iPad with Apple Pencil may suit buyers prioritizing iPad apps or Apple integration; a Samsung Galaxy Tab with S Pen may suit those relying on Google services or Samsung phones; and a Surface is the more natural candidate for users who need full Windows desktop applications. For watches, compare Huawei’s options with Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch, Garmin or Fitbit/Google based on phone fit, sports features, app support and battery expectations—not on a product suffix alone.
What this launch changes—and what it does not establish
The May announcement expanded Huawei’s 2026 device range with a large MatePad Pro Max and several watch tiers, from the FIT series to a luxury-design edition and children’s models. Its clearest tablet proposition is the combination of a compatible MatePad and Huawei’s pen features. The launch announcement itself does not settle the shopping questions that matter most: local availability, retail bundle contents, the watches’ detailed specifications, or whether the software ecosystem fits a buyer’s needs.
