How much did the G-SHOCK G-D001 sell for?
Casio reported a final auction result of $400,050 including the buyer’s premium. Phillips’ lot listing records the same total for the sale at its New York auction on December 9–10, 2023. The amount buyers pay at auction includes the premium charged by the auction house, so it is different from the hammer price.
Casio China’s official product feature states that the G-D001’s hammer price was $315,000; the final total of $400,050 included commission and the buyer’s premium. The hammer price is the successful bid before those charges, not the buyer-paid total.
Why is the G-D001 so expensive?
The auction result reflects a unique charity-sale watch rather than a normal production model with a comparable retail price. Casio described the G-D001 as one piece worldwide, created for G-SHOCK’s 40th anniversary. Its scarcity, unusual design process, gold construction and auction context distinguish it from watches shoppers can compare by standard retail pricing.

A one-of-one anniversary watch
The G-D001 was the second Casio Dream Project watch. Casio’s investor briefing describes it as a one-of-one model made for the brand’s 40th anniversary. Phillips sold that sole example at auction; the documented sale does not establish a current market price or later resale value.
Gold and custom construction
Casio’s official product feature describes 18-karat gold exterior components, including the bezel and band, alongside a transparent dial. Casio also says the watch has a dedicated movement with a metal main plate, silicon gears and ruby bearings, and a solar-cell generation layer made from a gallium compound. These are Casio’s product descriptions; the cited sources do not provide independent test results.

Was the G-D001 designed by AI?
Casio says the design was created through human and AI co-creation. Its account describes AI processing of 40 years of G-SHOCK shock-related data, with generative design applied to the exterior. Casio says the resulting organic form achieved a full-metal shock-resistant structure. This describes the process Casio attributes to the watch; it does not mean the watch was designed by AI alone.
Can you buy the G-SHOCK G-D001?
There is no regular retail availability established for the G-D001. Casio describes one piece worldwide, and Phillips’ listing documents the completed 2023 auction. The sources do not identify a current listing, a subsequent sale, or a present-day value, so the $400,050 auction total should not be treated as a price at which the watch is currently available.

Where did the auction proceeds go?
Casio says the proceeds from the charity sale were donated to The Nature Conservancy. The sale was therefore both an auction of a unique anniversary watch and a charitable event.
