Casio America lists the U.S. price at $80,000 per watch; Japan’s announced tax-included price is ¥11,000,000. The defining feature is a bezel Casio describes as entirely blue sapphire, built into a shock-resistant watch using a screwless, multi-component structure.
What is the MRG-D5000 Blue Sapphire?
It is a limited MR-G watch based on the familiar square G-SHOCK design, but it is not a standard model intended for broad retail stocking. Casio says the worldwide production is limited to 20 pieces, with one allocated to Japan. The company calls it the first G-SHOCK to achieve a shock-resistant structure using blue-sapphire components; that is a narrower claim than calling it the first sapphire watch or saying the entire exterior is sapphire. Why does it cost $80,000?
The price is tied to a rare sapphire construction and an exceptionally small production run, rather than to a conventional G-SHOCK feature upgrade. Casio says the bezel is entirely blue sapphire and that the design uses a screwless, multi-component case-and-bezel structure. The company says this approach reduces the risk of screws causing sapphire components to crack, and that it analyzed impact forces transmitted to the sapphire. Those are Casio’s explanations of its design approach, not independently verified performance findings.
That engineering premise is unusual for G-SHOCK: sapphire is being incorporated into a watch designed around shock resistance, rather than treated as a conventional decorative insert. The high price and scarcity are clear from the announced figures; the available official product-page material does not provide a full specification table that would support broader claims about the watch’s technical performance.

These are market-specific announced figures, not a single worldwide price, and the schedules do not establish that a watch remains available to buy. Casio America, Casio Japan, and T3 report the respective details.
How the Blue Sapphire construction is described
Casio’s engineering account focuses on how to mount sapphire without undermining the watch’s shock-resistant design. It says a screwless, multi-component structure avoids relying on screws that could create a cracking risk for sapphire parts, while analysis of forces transmitted to the sapphire informed the construction. The description supports an explanation of Casio’s design intent; it does not establish independently tested impact limits or prove that sapphire makes the watch more shock-resistant than another G-SHOCK.

Casio’s announcement describes the bezel as entirely blue sapphire. It does not support saying that the whole case or exterior is sapphire, or identifying the sapphire as synthetic or lab-grown.
What is known about the movement and specifications?
Casio identifies Gallium Tough Solar in the module and describes it as durable under intense light and efficient at charging. The examined official product-page material does not expose a complete specification table, so details such as water resistance, dimensions, weight, radio reception, or other functions should not be assumed from the model name or from other G-SHOCKs.

How it compares with the other Blue Rose Project watches
Casio also announced MRG-B5000SA and GMW-B5000SB as companion Blue Rose Project products. They are much less expensive, but their sapphire treatments and construction are not equivalent to the MRG-D5000’s entirely sapphire bezel.

The companion models provide a more attainable entry to the Blue Rose Project, but neither should be treated as a lower-priced version of the same full-sapphire construction. The edition size and pricing figures come from Casio America’s 2026 announcement and Casio Japan’s 2026 release.

How rare is it, and what does “most expensive G-SHOCK” mean?
A 20-piece worldwide run makes the MRG-D5000 far removed from a normally stocked G-SHOCK. Casio’s regional announcements make the $80,000 figure a U.S. price, while its Japan release lists a different local price; the U.S. schedule accounts for six pieces arriving over several months. The figures support describing it as an exceptionally expensive, tightly limited G-SHOCK, but a definitive all-time ranking across every market and historical release is not established by those announcements alone.
Casio America’s 2026 release also says the G-SHOCK brand has sold 150 million watches worldwide. That figure gives brand-scale context, but it does not alter the limited nature of this particular edition.

Casio’s launch language
Shermeen Greenmun, Vice President of Timepiece at Casio America, said: “Built to create an impact and redefine watchmaking within the luxury industry, G-SHOCK has once again mastered the impossible with what is possible.” This is the company’s promotional framing of the launch, rather than a technical specification or independent assessment.
