The Casio G-SHOCK Mudmaster GWG-B1000 combines an analog-digital display with a compass, relative altimeter, barometer and thermometer. It also offers Bluetooth-linked features that use a smartphone, including route logging that combines watch altitude readings with a course from the phone’s GPS. That makes it a useful source of field information—not a standalone GPS navigator, and not a substitute for a map, compass or official weather updates.
What the GWG-B1000 offers outdoors
The GWG-B1000 is an analog-digital watch in Casio’s Mudmaster line. Casio lists a Triple Sensor—compass, altimeter/barometer and thermometer—alongside Tough Solar power, radio-controlled timekeeping, Bluetooth connectivity and 20-bar (200-meter) water resistance. Those are manufacturer specifications; they do not establish how accurately the sensors perform on a particular hike or expedition.
The specific GWG-B1000-1A3 variant measures 58.7 × 52.1 × 16.2 mm and weighs 114 g, according to Casio’s current international product page. Its dimensions and weight are worth considering alongside the feature set, especially if you prefer a compact or light watch. No fit test is established here. Casio’s GWG-B1000-1A3 specifications
Using the compass for direction
The compass displays one of 16 directions and a bearing from 0° to 359°. Casio specifies continuous direction measurement for 60 seconds, with the seconds hand indicating north. The bearing-memory feature can preserve a direction for reference.

These are bearing aids, not turn-by-turn navigation. Location Indicator can point toward a location saved through the app or selected on its map where that selection is available; Casio says manual map-point selection is unavailable in China. It does not turn the watch into a GPS navigator. For route finding, pair the watch with appropriate navigation tools such as a map and conventional compass.
Reading altitude and pressure on a route
Relative altitude
Casio gives the altimeter a measurement range of −700 to 10,000 m. It measures every second during the first three minutes, then switches to a selectable interval of either five seconds or two minutes. The Japanese specification also lists up to 30 manual altitude memories, automatic high and low records, and accumulated ascent and descent records. These readings can add elevation context during an outing, but the stated range and cadence do not show how accurate readings will be in changing field conditions.

Barometric pressure
The barometer’s stated range is 260–1,100 hPa, and the watch includes a pressure trend display and alarm. Treat these as information about pressure and its trend, not as a weather forecast. Use official forecasts and local warnings for weather decisions.
What the smartphone connection adds
Bluetooth links the watch with the CASIO WATCHES smartphone app. Casio lists automatic time adjustment and watch settings, plus Mission Log, Location Memory, Location Indicator, automatic altitude adjustment and phone finder. These are connected functions; the feature descriptions do not promise phone-free route recording.

Mission Log and saved locations
Mission Log combines altitude readings measured by the watch with a course obtained from the smartphone’s GPS. Location Memory saves a point, while Location Indicator provides direction and distance to a saved or app-selected point. Casio cautions that GPS information can contain errors, so an altitude adjusted using that information may differ from the actual altitude. The watch’s own altimeter is relative, and the app-linked correction does not eliminate that qualification. Casio’s GWG-B1000 feature and sensor notes
Temperature readings need care
The watch measures temperature, but a reading on the wrist is not necessarily ambient air temperature. Casio warns that wrist temperature, perspiration, water droplets, direct sunlight and other external factors can affect the result. For an ambient measurement, remove the watch from your wrist.

Construction, water resistance and wearability
Casio lists shock, vibration and mud resistance, Carbon Core Guard construction, a screw-lock crown, guarded buttons, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and a double LED light. It also specifies 20-bar (200-meter) water resistance. That rating is a specification, not a blanket assurance for every water activity; consult Casio’s guidance for the conditions and handling that apply to the watch.
The cited 1A3 variant’s 58.7 × 52.1 × 16.2 mm case and 114 g mass may matter as much as its sensors if you plan to wear it for long days. Those figures describe the variant, not every possible GWG-B1000 configuration. Casio’s Japanese announcement scheduled the model’s release for 13 October 2023 and gave an original Japanese price of 121,000 yen including tax; that historical launch figure is not a current worldwide price. What to check before relying on it
- Navigation: Decide how you will navigate if your phone is unavailable. The described Mission Log uses smartphone GPS, and Location Indicator is based on a saved or app-selected point.
- Elevation: Remember that the altimeter is relative. Do not treat an adjusted value as guaranteed true altitude.
- Weather: Use official forecasts and warnings; the pressure trend is not a forecast.
- Temperature: Remove the watch for an ambient reading and account for the environmental influences Casio identifies.
- Fit: Check the case dimensions and weight against your wrist and intended use.
- Evidence: Casio’s published functions and specifications describe what the watch is designed to provide; they are not independent field-performance results.
How to compare it with another outdoor watch
Compare practical capabilities rather than relying on labels such as “outdoor” or “rugged.” The key differences are the sensor set and measurement cadence, whether location logging works on the watch or depends on a phone, the power and time-setting approach, stated environmental resistance, and dimensions and mass. A named competitor comparison would require verified specifications for that specific model.
