Samsung announced the Watch FE nine days later, confirming most of the key specifications. The leak’s central implication also held up: this was a budget-focused refresh, not a new-generation watch. Samsung’s U.S. availability and pricing were announced in 2024; as of 2026, its U.S. MSRP records list Watch FE models as end of life (EOL).
What the leak showed
The leaked images depicted a circular watch with a 40mm-class case and styling closely resembling the Galaxy Watch4. The report described three colors—black, pink gold and silver—and identified two model families: SM-R861 for Bluetooth and SM-R866 for cellular connectivity. Its characterization of the FE as a rebadged Watch4 was not Samsung’s wording, but it proved a useful shorthand for the shared hardware platform.
The report also anticipated a July debut. Samsung’s U.S. Bluetooth availability instead began June 24, 2024.
Leaked specifications versus Samsung’s confirmation
Samsung’s U.S. announcement confirmed the central hardware claims. The company also published regional specifications that differ in a few details, so weight, phone requirements and durability markings should be read in the context of the relevant market.

How close was it to the Galaxy Watch4?
The Watch FE reused much of the older platform: the W920 processor, 40mm-class circular format, display resolution, 16GB storage and 247mAh battery. That makes “Watch4 refresh” a fair description of its hardware foundation, but not a claim that every component or specification was identical. Samsung’s FE branding came with refreshed colors and bands, One UI 5 Watch at launch, and promoted health tools. Regional documentation also differs on items such as Bluetooth version, weight, compatibility requirements and the military-standard suffix.
For a buyer, the distinction is practical: the FE offered familiar Galaxy Watch features at a lower original price, but did not bring a new processor generation or a larger battery. Its compact case may suit someone who wants a smaller watch; it is less compelling for someone prioritizing a larger display or longer endurance.

Health and software features
Samsung positioned the FE around Samsung Health and its BioActive Sensor, with sleep monitoring and coaching, sleep-environment guidance, optical heart-rate monitoring, electrical heart sensing, bioelectrical impedance analysis, exercise tracking and body-composition-related tools. Samsung also listed Samsung Wallet and Camera Controller for compatible Samsung phones.
These are smartwatch health and activity features, not a guarantee that every function is available to every owner. Samsung says availability and functionality can vary by market and model; some tools can also depend on regulatory approval, software and the paired phone.
Battery: what the 30-hour claim means
The leak reported around 30 hours on a charge. Samsung confirmed the 247mAh battery, but its U.S. announcement does not establish 30 hours as a universal real-world result. Always-on display use, LTE, GPS workouts, continuous health monitoring, notifications, apps, battery age and software can all affect runtime. Treat the figure as a reported expectation, not a promise of two full days of typical use.

Launch price, timing and availability
In the U.S., Samsung said Bluetooth availability would begin June 24, 2024, and announced an LTE version to follow through Samsung.com, Samsung Experience Stores, carriers and major retailers. The original U.S. MSRP was $199.99 for Bluetooth and $249.99 for LTE; these are launch-era list prices, not verified current prices. Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP file marks the Watch FE SKUs as EOL. That does not prove every retailer has run out, but buyers may encounter remaining stock, imports or refurbished units rather than an actively listed Samsung product.

Samsung’s U.S. announcement specifies Android 6.0 or later and more than 1.5GB of phone memory. Its global announcement specifies Android 11 or later. Because those published requirements differ, check the regional model’s current requirements and the Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health app requirements before buying. The published compatibility is Android-based, not support for iPhone.
Samsung’s regional pages also vary on weight: the U.S. listing gives 25.9g, while the global listing gives 26.6g. The global page lists Bluetooth 5.3 and MIL-STD-810H; U.S. materials show different Bluetooth and military-standard details. Avoid treating one region’s full specification sheet as universal.

Who might still consider the Watch FE?
- Budget-focused Android users: It may suit someone who finds a verified, working unit at a meaningfully lower price than a newer watch.
- Samsung Health users: The FE provides Samsung’s health and fitness features in a compact Galaxy Watch format, subject to regional and phone limitations.
- Small-watch buyers: Its 40mm-class case is the central size option described in the launch materials.
- LTE seekers: The SM-R866 family identifies the cellular variant, though availability and carrier support depend on market and plan.
Who should skip it?
- Buyers who want current-generation hardware: The W920 platform belongs to the Watch4 era, so newer Galaxy Watch generations are the more relevant comparison.
- People who prioritize battery life: The 247mAh capacity and conditional 30-hour report do not make it a clear endurance choice.
- iPhone owners: Samsung’s published phone requirements are Android-based.
- Anyone relying on dependable new-stock support: EOL status in Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP file makes it important to verify stock, warranty, regional compatibility and seller terms before purchase.
Compare the actual price and condition with newer Galaxy Watch models, including discounted Watch7 stock, rather than assuming the older FE is better value because its original MSRP was lower. Used Watch4 or Watch5 units can cost less, but battery age and support status become more important. The Watch FE’s case is strongest only when its price, condition and remaining support make sense for the buyer.
Verdict
The leak got the essential story right: Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE was a compact, affordable refresh built on Watch4-generation hardware, with updated software, styling and health features rather than a new hardware platform. That made it a credible lower-cost option at launch, but in 2026 its appeal depends on a verified deal and the buyer’s tolerance for older hardware and EOL availability.
