It carried the August 2025 security patch and initially rolled out to Bluetooth Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic models. Samsung later delivered the bigger upgrade: One UI 8 Watch, based on Wear OS 6, appeared for the Watch4 series in December 2025. As of August 18, 2026, Samsung’s records show later updates too, although availability depends on the exact model and region.
What the October 2025 update actually included
The October update was first reported in South Korea for Bluetooth versions of the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic. Its focus was security and stability; it was not the One UI 8 Watch feature release. The original report listed these builds:
| Watch model | Model number | October 2025 build |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch4 40mm | SM-R860 | R860XXU1IYI1 |
| Galaxy Watch4 44mm | SM-R870 | R870XXU1IYI1 |
| Galaxy Watch4 Classic 40mm | SM-R880 | R880XXU1IYI1 |
| Galaxy Watch4 Classic 44mm | SM-R890 | R890XXU1IYI1 |
Phandroid’s October 22, 2025 report described the update as carrying the August 2025 security patch. Its appearance in Samsung’s update history alongside platform notation referring to Android Wear 6 did not mean the One UI 8 Watch feature package was included.
Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch are related, not interchangeable
Wear OS 6 is the underlying Google wearable platform version. One UI 8 Watch is Samsung’s interface and feature layer built on that platform. An update record may identify the platform without indicating that a particular Samsung feature release has arrived; the October IYI1 patch is one such case.

When the Galaxy Watch4 got One UI 8 Watch
Samsung’s official update history for the Galaxy Watch4 44mm Wi-Fi model SM-R870 lists the actual One UI 8 Watch upgrade separately. Build R870XXU1JYK4 was released on December 22, 2025, with Android/Wear OS version 6.0 and an October 1, 2025 security patch.
Samsung’s notes for that release call out two changes:

Those notes are for the cited model’s record, not a guarantee that every feature is available on every Watch4 variant, in every country, or with every phone. Samsung says update changes can vary by model, country, and service provider.

These dates and build numbers come from Samsung’s update history for SM-R870. A separate Samsung Japan version listing also shows the ZE1 release dated June 22, 2026 for Watch4 and Watch4 Classic model families. That regional listing does not establish simultaneous availability for every model or in the United States.
Which Watch4 model should you check?
The model number matters as much as the product name. The October 2025 report identifies Wi-Fi/Bluetooth model numbers SM-R860, SM-R870, SM-R880, and SM-R890. LTE variants can have different model numbers and may receive firmware on a different schedule. Watch4 Classic case-size names also differ across regional documentation, so use the model number shown on your own watch rather than inferring eligibility from “40mm” or “44mm” alone.

Samsung’s detailed history cited above is for SM-R870. It is useful evidence of the Watch4’s later upgrade path, but its specific build sequence should not be assumed to apply unchanged to every LTE SKU, country, or carrier.

If no update appears
A missing update does not by itself show that the watch is unsupported. Rollouts can vary by country and service provider, LTE firmware can follow a different schedule from Bluetooth firmware, and Samsung may list a release for one model number before another. The watch may also already have a later build than the October IYI1 version.
- Check the model number and current software build on the watch before comparing update records.
- Restart both watch and phone, make sure Galaxy Wearable is up to date, reconnect the watch if needed, and check again.
- Keep the devices close together and follow the update prompts. If installation fails, confirm the watch has enough available storage.
- If the update still does not appear, contact Samsung support with the model number and current build. A factory reset should not be the first troubleshooting step.
Is it worth keeping or buying a Galaxy Watch4?
From a software perspective, the later Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch release makes the Watch4’s outlook better than the October 2025 headline alone suggested. Samsung’s available update history confirms that release and subsequent updates, but does not provide a definitive formal end-of-support statement. One UI 8 Watch therefore appears to be the Watch4’s final major platform upgrade based on the update history currently available—not a guarantee from Samsung that no further platform upgrade will come.
For an owner whose watch works well, the October IYI1 patch alone was no reason to replace it, and the later platform upgrade strengthens the case for keeping it. A used-watch buyer should weigh the actual condition of the battery and display, performance, sensor hardware, repairability, and the device’s regional firmware history. The fact that a Watch4 received Wear OS 6 does not establish how long it will receive future updates.
