Double-pinch controls

How to check for One UI 8 Watch on a Galaxy Watch5
Check through Galaxy Wearable
- Pair the watch with its compatible Android phone.
- Open the Galaxy Wearable app.
- Tap Watch settings.
- Select Watch software update.
- Tap Download and install.
Samsung recommends having sufficient charge before starting. The watch may restart during installation, so do not remove it from the charger or interrupt the process unless Samsung’s on-screen instructions specifically tell you to do so.
Check directly on the watch
Wear OS models can also check from the watch by opening Settings and selecting Software update. The watch still needs to be paired with a compatible Android phone for setup and normal management.
Find the installed build
Use the watch’s software-information screen or the Galaxy Wearable software-update screen to compare the installed build with the relevant Samsung record. The important part of the build is the model-specific prefix: an R900 device should be compared with R900 records, while an R910 device should be compared with R910 records.
What to do if the update does not appear
No update notification does not automatically mean that your watch is excluded. Try this sequence:
- Confirm the exact model: Do not rely only on the retail name. Check whether the watch reports SM-R900, SM-R910, or another model number.
- Update Galaxy Wearable: An outdated companion app can interfere with update checks or display different menu labels.
- Check the phone connection: Keep the watch paired and connected to the compatible Android phone while checking.
- Charge the watch: A low battery can prevent the installation from starting.
- Check again later: Samsung distributes updates by model, market, operator, and software channel.
- Compare the regional record: A Bluetooth model and an LTE model—or devices sold through different operators—may receive separate packages.
A missing update on one day is therefore not enough evidence that the watch will never receive it. If your model is not covered by the cited R900 or R910 record, use Samsung’s update page for that exact model and region.
Should you update immediately?

- Different menus or gestures: New controls such as double-pinch may need to be enabled or configured.
- Feature differences: A feature shown in Samsung’s general One UI 8 Watch marketing may not be available on your specific watch, phone, or region.
Samsung’s records support claims about the software version, release history, and listed features. They do not by themselves establish longer battery life, faster performance, or identical behavior for every owner, so those outcomes should not be assumed.

If your watch is still in daily use, an update is also a reasonable time to inspect its physical condition. A Galaxy Watch5 replacement band, screen protector, or charger may be useful, but compatibility is size- and model-sensitive. Check the case size, connector design, and charging compatibility before buying; these are not requirements for receiving One UI 8 Watch and are not official Samsung recommendations merely because they are mentioned here.
