Samsung confirmed that combination when it unveiled the watch on July 9, 2025. The story is now a look back at an accurate leak, not an unconfirmed rumor.
What the leaked renders showed
CAD renders reported by 9to5Google on May 21, 2025 showed a circular screen inside a chunky, rounded-square outer case. The images also showed a ridged bezel, three buttons on the right side and a larger speaker opening on the left. The design looked more rugged and angular than the conventionally round Galaxy Watch Classic models that came before it.
The renders were reported as coming from SammyGuru and OnLeaks and were said to align with earlier firmware evidence. They suggested a case measuring about 46 × 46.5 × 14.2 mm. Those were leak-era estimates, not Samsung’s final retail dimensions. The images showed the bezel’s notches, but could not demonstrate that it rotated.
Samsung confirmed the rotating bezel
Before launch, the ridged rim was a strong clue, rather than proof, that the bezel moved. After launch, Samsung’s official product description confirmed a physical rotating bezel as a signature Classic feature for scrolling and navigation. The final watch therefore delivered the tactile control the renders had suggested.

That control is the key continuity with earlier Classic models. The Galaxy Watch4 Classic and Watch6 Classic paired a rotating bezel with a more fully circular case; the Watch8 Classic keeps the bezel but changes the silhouette. In contrast, the Galaxy Watch Ultra has a squarish outer design but not the Classic’s physical rotating bezel.
It is a round display in a squircle case
Calling the Watch8 Classic simply a square watch is misleading. The screen and watch face are circular; it is the housing around them that has rounded-square corners. Samsung calls the shape a “cushion design,” while later coverage described the Watch8 line’s styling as a squircle influenced by the Ultra (TechAdvisor).
The result combines two visual languages: a traditional round watch face and a broader, more angular chassis. That may suit buyers who want the bezel and a tougher-looking design. It may disappoint Classic owners who prefer the uninterrupted circular outline of previous generations. The bezel is tactile, but the case is not a return to the old Classic shape.

What the three buttons mean
The leaked renders showed three buttons on the right, but did not establish their exact functions. Later coverage identified the extra control as a Quick Button, carrying over a control associated with the Ultra (TechAdvisor). The useful takeaway from the leak itself is the changed layout; its images alone were not enough to confirm how each button would work.

Samsung’s UK specification page lists the Bluetooth 46mm model at 46.0 × 46.4 × 10.6 mm, rather than the roughly 46 × 46.5 × 14.2 mm suggested by the leaked renders. This is a comparison between a leak estimate and Samsung’s official body specification; the difference does not by itself establish that either figure was erroneous, since the render estimate may account for protrusions or use a different measurement method.
A separate eBay prototype report is not the same evidence as the CAD renders. SamMobile noted that the prototype appeared to use unusual strap connectors and that its listing identified a 64GB model (SamMobile). The final Samsung specification also lists 64GB storage, but the prototype’s reported strap arrangement should not be assumed to represent every retail configuration.

What the size and battery claims mean in practice
The Classic came in a single 46mm size, and Samsung lists the Bluetooth model at 63.5g before the strap. That is a substantial watch rather than a light, compact option; wrist fit and comfort are worth considering, especially if you have a smaller wrist.

Samsung’s “up to” battery figures are maximum claims, not a promise of a fixed runtime for every owner. LTE use, GPS, workouts, sleep tracking, notifications and screen brightness can all affect how long it lasts. Anyone prioritizing multi-day battery life should not infer that from the published maximums.
Who the design suits—and who may prefer another shape
It may suit you if
- You specifically want a physical bezel for tactile scrolling and navigation instead of relying only on the touchscreen.
- You like the combination of a round watch face and a more rugged, cushion-shaped case.
- You use an Android phone and want Samsung’s watch and health features. Some functions require a Samsung account or Samsung Health, and feature availability can depend on country, device and software.
Look elsewhere if
- You want a fully circular outer case like earlier Classic generations, rather than a round display inside a squircle.
- A 46mm case or a 63.5g watch body is likely to feel too large or heavy on your wrist.
- You prioritize extended battery life beyond Samsung’s stated maximums, particularly with frequent LTE or GPS use.
- You use an iPhone-centered setup: the Galaxy Watch8 Classic is not the natural cross-platform choice for that use.
Launch timing, prices and availability context
Samsung unveiled the Watch8 Classic on July 9, 2025, and retail availability began July 25, according to TechAdvisor’s launch coverage. It reported US launch prices of $499 for Bluetooth and $549 for LTE, and UK launch prices of £449 and £499 respectively. These are July 2025 launch prices, not current street prices.
Samsung’s UK page showed the Bluetooth model as “No longer available” when viewed for this coverage. That is a UK page status, not proof of global discontinuation or of US stock conditions. Check availability and pricing for your own region before buying.

How accurate was the leak?
On the central design question, it was accurate: the retail watch has a circular display, a cushion-shaped rounded-square case, a physical rotating bezel and the three-button layout suggested by the renders. What remained uncertain in May was the bezel’s actual operation, the final measurements and details such as prototype strap hardware. Samsung’s later product information settled the key point: the unusual combination was not just a rendering artefact but the finished Classic’s design.
Samsung presents health features and metrics as wellness and fitness tools, not medical diagnoses; availability and requirements vary. Anyone choosing the watch for a particular health function should check Samsung’s feature disclosures for their region and device.
