Garmin Connect+ is an optional paid layer on top of Garmin Connect—not a requirement for using a Garmin watch or Edge computer. It adds Garmin’s Active Intelligence insights, phone-based Live Activity workout guidance, extra content for selected Garmin Coach plans, customizable performance dashboards and, in later Garmin documentation, nutrition tools, Garmin Trails and expanded social features.
It is most convincing for Garmin owners who will regularly use two or three of those features. If you mainly record runs, rides and walks, review your history and use Garmin’s existing suggested workouts, the free Garmin Connect experience may be enough.

What Garmin Connect+ is
Garmin launched Connect+ in the United States on March 27, 2025. It is a subscription attached to your Garmin account and Connect app, not a separate watch, training platform or hardware product. Garmin said existing Garmin Connect features and data would remain free.
At launch, U.S. pricing was $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year, with a 30-day free trial. The annual price works out to about $5.83 per month; paying monthly for a year would total $83.88, making the annual plan about $13.89 cheaper. Pricing and trial terms can change, so check the current annual product page or monthly product page before subscribing.

Active Intelligence explained
Active Intelligence is Garmin’s name for AI-powered personalized insights and suggestions. It uses the health and activity information available in your Garmin ecosystem and is intended to become more tailored as Garmin receives more information about you.
That does not make it a general-purpose chatbot, doctor or human coach. Garmin’s launch material described the feature as beta, and the supplied official documentation does not establish clinical validity, superior coaching outcomes or a guaranteed level of accuracy. Treat its recommendations as informational rather than diagnostic or prescriptive. If an insight seems generic, the likely explanation may be limited, inconsistent or narrow data rather than a promise that the feature has failed.
Recommended Free Tools
Garmin later documented AI insights covering activity and nutrition. Because the feature processes sensitive health and activity information, privacy-conscious users should review Garmin’s product information and current privacy terms before enabling it.

What “new workouts” really means
Connect+ does not simply unlock one universal new workout library on every Garmin watch. The clearest launch feature was Live Activity: a compatible Garmin device records an indoor session while the paired phone displays live information and available workout guidance.
The typical flow is:
- Start a supported indoor activity on the Garmin watch.
- Open Garmin Connect on the compatible paired phone.
- Select Live Activity.
- Follow available workout videos and view live heart rate, pace, repetitions and other information.
- Edit repetitions or weight during some workouts.
- Stop or resume the activity from the phone where that control is available.
Garmin lists supported profiles including cardio, elliptical, HIIT, indoor cycling, indoor rowing, Pilates, stair stepper, strength, treadmill and yoga. The exact controls and videos depend on the activity and device. Live Activity requires an active Connect+ subscription and ends when the subscription expires. It is phone-based, so it is not simply a new on-watch workout mode.
Garmin’s Live Activity support page contains the current compatibility list and should be checked before subscribing.

Connect+ adds extra Garmin coach guidance, educational material and videos to selected Garmin Coach training plans. Garmin’s launch announcement specifically highlighted Garmin Run Coach and Garmin Cycling Coach; later manuals refer more broadly to selected Garmin Coach plans.

That wording matters. The subscription does not promise unlimited bespoke coaching, a human trainer or identical content across every plan. Your device, plan type, software version, account and region can all affect what appears.
Garmin’s free features remain important here. On compatible watches and Edge computers, Daily Suggested Workouts can provide automatically generated recommendations without Connect+. Connect+ is therefore an enhancement for selected coaching content, not a requirement for all Garmin workout recommendations.
Performance dashboards
The premium performance dashboard lets users build customizable charts and compare health and fitness data across different periods. Garmin describes dashboard options for running, cycling, strength training, multisport, custom views and, in supported versions, nutrition metrics.
This may be more valuable than an AI summary to athletes who want to inspect relationships between metrics—for example, how training load changes alongside resting heart rate or sleep-related scores. But a chart showing two metrics moving together does not prove that one caused the other. Garmin’s dashboard explainer describes the analytical capability, not a guarantee of useful conclusions for every athlete.

- Make a bold statement with this rugged GPS smartwatch, featuring a 0.9” display with solar charging lens and unlimited battery life with solar charging (assumes all-day wear with 3 hours per day outside in 50,000 lux conditions)
- Engineered with a supertough 45 mm fiber-reinforced polymer case and metal-reinforced bezel
- Built-in LED flashlight with variable intensities and strobe modes gives you greater visibility in the outdoors and provides convenient illumination when you need it
- Know your body better with health monitoring features, including wrist-based heart rate, advanced sleep monitoring, Pulse Ox and more (this is not a medical device, and data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked; Pulse Ox not available in all countries)
- Navigate confidently with a 3-axis compass, barometric altimeter and multi-band GPS with SatIQ technology, which delivers superior positioning while also optimizing battery life
Nutrition features
Later Garmin Connect+ documentation lists nutrition tools that were not part of the original launch headline. Depending on the device and account, these can include:
- Daily food logging.
- Calorie and macronutrient tracking.
- Food databases and barcode or UPC scanning in the Garmin Connect app.
- Nutrition goals.
- Daily, morning and evening nutrition views on some compatible watches.
- Nutrition reports and Active Intelligence insights.
These tools make Connect+ more useful as an integrated Garmin record, especially for users who want training and nutrition data in one ecosystem. They should not automatically be treated as a replacement for a specialist food-tracking service: database coverage, device support and logging convenience can differ.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.LiveTrack, social features and Garmin Trails
Connect+ can add text notifications to selected contacts when an activity starts, a personalized LiveTrack profile page and access to previous LiveTrack sessions according to later Garmin documentation. It also includes exclusive badges, badge challenges, profile frames and, for some challenges, double points.

These extras are practical for people who regularly share activities with family or clubs. They are unlikely to justify the subscription for someone who records workouts privately.
Best Value
- Easy-to-use running watch monitors heart rate (this is not a medical device) at the wrist and uses GPS to track how far, how fast and where you’ve run.Special Feature:Bluetooth.
- Battery life: up to 2 weeks in smartwatch mode; up to 20 hours in GPS mode
- Plan your race day strategy with the PacePro feature (not compatible with on-device courses), which offers GPS-based pace guidance for a selected course or distance
- Run your best with helpful training tools, including race time predictions and finish time estimates
- Track all the ways you move with built-in activity profiles for running, cycling, track run, virtual run, pool swim, Pilates, HIIT, breathwork and more
Garmin’s later materials also list Follow Garmin Trails. Depending on availability, users can browse trails and courses with pictures, ratings, reviews or trip reports, then send compatible trails to supported devices for offline use. This is different from Garmin Outdoor Maps+, a separate subscription aimed at premium mapping data.
Compatibility: check before paying
Connect+ is not a universal feature unlock for every Garmin product. Before starting a trial, check:
- Your exact Garmin model.
- Whether the specific feature supports that model.
- Whether the watch or Edge computer has current software.
- Whether your phone meets Garmin Connect’s requirements.
- Whether the feature is available in your country.
- Whether your chosen activity profile is supported.
The Live Activity list covers selected models across Garmin’s D2, Descent, Enduro, epix, fēnix, Forerunner, MARQ, quatix, tactix, Venu and vívoactive families, but the list can change as Garmin adds products. Do not infer compatibility from the product family alone.
Who should subscribe?
Connect+ makes the most sense if you:
- Want AI summaries and suggestions integrated with your Garmin health data.
- Will use phone-based Live Activity for strength, yoga, Pilates or indoor training.
- Follow a supported Garmin Coach plan and want its additional videos and guidance.
- Build custom dashboards and regularly analyze multiple metrics.
- Want Garmin-native food logging and nutrition views.
- Use LiveTrack, challenges or Garmin Trails often.
It is harder to justify if you:
- Mainly record runs, rides or walks and find free Garmin Connect sufficient.
- Already like Daily Suggested Workouts or free Garmin Coach features.
- Own an unsupported device or use unsupported activity profiles.
- Want individualized human coaching.
- Already pay for a specialist nutrition, training or mapping service and do not need duplication.
- Object to adding a recurring fee after buying Garmin hardware.
For a runner, the subscription is mainly about the value of extra Garmin Coach guidance, dashboards and AI interpretation—not access to basic run recording. For a cyclist, the case improves if you use Cycling Coach, indoor workouts, LiveTrack or performance comparisons. For an indoor strength or yoga user, Live Activity may be the most tangible benefit. For a hiker, Garmin Trails may matter more than coaching, while someone seeking premium maps should look at Outdoor Maps+ separately.
Alternatives to Connect+
The first alternative is simply staying with free Garmin Connect. Core activity history and existing Garmin features remain available according to Garmin’s launch announcement.
You can also use Garmin’s free Daily Suggested Workouts where your device supports them. If your need is mapping rather than AI, workouts or nutrition, evaluate Outdoor Maps+ instead of assuming Connect+ includes every Garmin premium service. Garmin lists separate offerings—including Outdoor Maps+, Tacx Premium, Garmin Golf and inReach plans—in its subscription directory.
A dedicated coaching or nutrition service may be a better specialist tool for some users, but Connect+ should not be presented as equivalent to every human-coaching or food-tracking platform without a separate, current comparison.

Common problems and fixes
- The feature does not appear: Confirm pairing, current software, country availability and the exact model’s compatibility.
- Live Activity is missing: Use a supported indoor activity profile and a compatible phone and device.
- Coaching extras are absent: Check that you joined a supported Garmin Coach plan; not every plan receives identical content.
- There is no phone nearby: Live Activity requires the phone for its live presentation and controls.
- Nutrition tools are unavailable: Check device-specific support and regional availability.
- You cancel: Garmin says Live Activity access ends when Connect+ expires. Do not assume that cancellation deletes your historical Garmin data; the subscription features and stored activity history are separate questions.
