Choose the COROS PACE 4 Pro if its listed lighter weight, larger display and longer claimed GPS runtime suit your priorities. There is no fair value winner without a verified current U.S. price for both: Garmin lists the Forerunner 970 at $749.99, while the COROS pages cited here do not establish a comparable PACE 4 Pro price. These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a controlled head-to-head test.

Figures are manufacturer specifications. Weight may depend on band configuration, and battery life varies with settings and use; Garmin specifically notes that enabled features and connected sensors affect runtime. Garmin’s U.S. comparison page, Garmin’s Forerunner 970 manual and the COROS PACE 4 Pro product page provide the cited specifications.
Which watch should you buy?
Buy the Forerunner 970 if Garmin’s documented features and known U.S. price matter most
Garmin’s current U.S. comparison page lists the Forerunner 970 at $749.99. It specifies built-in mapping, a sapphire crystal lens and titanium bezel, and several distinct GPS battery modes. That makes it easier to assess the listed price and features before buying. The specifications alone do not establish how its maps compare in practice with COROS’s.
Buy the PACE 4 Pro if listed weight, display size or claimed GPS endurance lead your decision
COROS lists the PACE 4 Pro at 43 g with a 1.47-inch AMOLED display, sapphire glass, a titanium bezel, up to 21 days of daily use and up to 60 hours of GPS battery life. Those manufacturer figures make it the more compelling spec-sheet fit for someone prioritizing a lower stated weight, a larger screen or long GPS runtime. They do not establish real-world comfort, readability or battery results.

Wait to compare prices if value is the deciding factor
Garmin’s cited price is U.S.-specific, and the COROS product and buy pages cited here do not state a current comparable U.S. PACE 4 Pro price. Compare current prices in your market before deciding which offers better value.
Battery life: compare modes, not just headline numbers
The headline GPS figures are not directly equivalent. Garmin publishes separate estimates for GPS-only, Auto Select GNSS and All + Multi-Band GNSS, while the cited COROS PACE 4 Pro page gives a 60-hour GPS claim without specifying one of those matching modes. Treat the numbers as indications of the manufacturers’ stated endurance, not as a head-to-head result.

- PACE 4 Pro: up to 21 days of daily use and up to 60 hours of GPS battery life, as listed by COROS.
Garmin warns that actual Forerunner 970 battery duration depends on enabled features and connected sensors. COROS also cautions that battery claims vary with use and settings. Neither manufacturer’s quoted maximum should be treated as a guaranteed duration for every configuration.
Display, weight and materials
The PACE 4 Pro has the larger listed display: 1.47 inches at 466 × 466 pixels, versus the Forerunner 970’s 1.4 inches at 454 × 454. That is a specification difference, not evidence that one is easier to read outdoors or during a run; the cited sources do not provide a direct readability test.

COROS lists the PACE 4 Pro at 43 g and Garmin lists the Forerunner 970 at 56 g. The stated difference favors COROS on weight, but the available figures do not establish a like-for-like worn-weight comparison with identical bands. Both use a titanium bezel and sapphire material—the Forerunner 970 specifies a sapphire crystal lens, while COROS describes sapphire glass.
Mapping and navigation
Both makers list mapping or route-navigation features: Garmin specifies built-in mapping, and COROS describes global maps and route/navigation features for the PACE 4 Pro. These product-page descriptions establish feature presence, not comparative map detail, route guidance quality or ease of use. Choose between them on those qualities only if you can assess the specific features you need; the cited specifications do not support declaring a navigation winner.

Make sure you are comparing the PACE 4 Pro, not the PACE Pro
COROS sells both a PACE 4 Pro and a distinct older PACE Pro. The older model’s official page lists a 1.3-inch AMOLED display, up to 38 hours of GPS battery life and up to 20 days of daily use; those specifications do not belong to the PACE 4 Pro. Likewise, COROS’s $349 USD PACE Pro launch price from October 31, 2024, is historical information about that older model—not a current PACE 4 Pro price. Check the model name carefully in listings and comparisons. See COROS’s separate PACE Pro overview, PACE Pro FAQs and 2024 PACE Pro announcement.

What the specifications do not settle
- Real-world battery performance: the cited figures are manufacturer claims, not results from a controlled test of both watches under the same settings.
- Navigation quality: both brands list mapping or route features, but the cited pages do not establish which is more useful or accurate in practice.
- Relative value: a current comparable PACE 4 Pro U.S. price is not established by the cited COROS pages, so a price-based winner cannot be named from these figures.
- Water rating parity: Garmin’s manual specifies a 5 ATM swim rating for the Forerunner 970. The cited PACE 4 Pro source excerpts do not establish its water rating, so no equivalent claim is made for COROS.
