The central buying choice is whether you need built-in GPS. Only the Active can record an outdoor route without a phone; the smaller Lily 2 and Classic use connected GPS. The family prioritizes a discreet, jewelry-like design and wellness tracking over a large, app-rich smartwatch experience.
What Garmin released, and when
“Lily 2” can mean either the whole product family or the specific base model. The first launch included two watches: Lily 2 and Lily 2 Classic. Garmin later expanded the range with Lily 2 Active; it did not replace the other two. Garmin’s January 8, 2024 announcement and newsroom listing for the October 2, 2024 Active announcement establish the two-stage release.
The original Lily 2 launch emphasized refreshed metal cases, patterned lenses that conceal the display when inactive, Sleep Score, dance fitness activities, and safety and incident-detection features. Garmin also highlighted Garmin Pay on Classic models. These were launch highlights, not a claim that every health or fitness feature was new to the Lily line.
How the Lily 2 models differ
The most consequential differences are GPS, Garmin Pay, case size, band style and Garmin’s advertised battery estimates. The specifications below are Garmin-listed; battery figures are maximum estimates, not promises of everyday runtime.

Garmin’s US comparison page lists the Active at $299.99 USD and the Classic at $279.99 USD and up. Those are listed US price signals, not guaranteed prices for every color, band, retailer or date. The original launch prices reported for the base Lily 2 and Classic were $249.99 and from $279.99 USD, respectively; launch MSRP is not the same as a current selling price (Wareable’s launch coverage). Check the exact live listing and SKU before buying.
Design and display: discreet first, information second
All three use a small touchscreen behind a patterned lens. Garmin lists a 240 × 201-pixel, 16-level grayscale liquid-crystal display and Gorilla Glass 3 for the compared models. The lens gives the watch a less screen-forward appearance when the display is inactive, but this is not a colorful AMOLED interface. The compact screen is a trade-off: a larger watch is generally more suitable if you want to read dense data, navigate detailed charts or control workouts on your wrist.
The Active’s case is 38 × 38 × 11 mm and 29 g, versus 35.4 × 35.4 × 10.1 mm for the standard and Classic models. That size difference may matter if a small, light watch is the priority. Garmin lists the Active in a silicone-band configuration; Classic versions offer nylon or Italian leather options.

GPS and exercise: the key reason to choose Active
The Lily 2 and Lily 2 Classic do not have built-in GPS. They rely on connected GPS from a compatible phone for location data during an outdoor activity, so leave the phone behind and you should not expect either to record a route independently. The Lily 2 Active adds built-in GPS, making it the Lily choice for phone-free outdoor walks, runs or rides. Garmin’s Lily 2 product page and Lily 2 Active product page identify the respective models.

Active adds sport and training capabilities over the more style-focused models, but it remains a compact grayscale watch rather than a full-featured sports computer. If you need detailed training tools, maps, music or richer workout controls, compare larger Garmin watches before choosing on brand alone. Independent reviews describe the Lily 2 as a capable casual tracker while noting limitations for serious athletes, including the lack of built-in GPS on that model (Android Authority; Tech Advisor).
Health and wellness tracking
The Lily 2 family is aimed at everyday activity and wellness tracking. Garmin lists wrist-based heart rate, sleep tracking and Sleep Score on supported models, stress, Body Battery, respiration, hydration, women’s health tracking, steps, calories, intensity minutes, VO2 max and Fitness Age. Pulse Ox can be used for spot checks and, where configured, sleep measurements. Feature availability may differ by model, phone, region and software, and some functions require a connected phone. Garmin’s comparison page and Lily 2 owner’s manual provide model and feature details.

These are wellness and fitness features, not a substitute for medical measurement or advice. Do not use Pulse Ox, heart-rate or cycle-tracking information to diagnose a condition, rule one out or make a medical decision. Garmin’s women’s-health tools likewise do not guarantee fertility outcomes.
Battery, water rating and operating conditions
Garmin rates the Lily 2 and Classic for up to five days in smartwatch mode. The Active is rated for up to nine days in smartwatch mode and up to nine hours in GPS mode. These are Garmin’s “up to” figures, not real-world guarantees: GPS recording, Pulse Ox use, notifications, phone connection and frequent screen interactions can change runtime. The Active’s manual specifications also list a 5 ATM water rating, an operating range of −20°C to 60°C and a charging range of 0°C to 45°C.
Smart features, payments and phone dependence
Pairing with the Garmin Connect app is part of the ownership experience for setup, syncing and data review. Connected GPS on the base and Classic models also depends on a compatible phone. Notifications and some safety functions require a phone connection; Assistance and incident detection are subject to setup, network availability and regional support, and are not a replacement for emergency services. The Active owner’s manual covers pairing and GPS activity requirements.

Garmin Pay is available on Classic and Active, not the base Lily 2. Payment use depends on participating banks, cards and countries, so check Garmin’s supported-bank information for your country before paying extra for this feature. Buyers should also verify current Android and iPhone requirements with Garmin, as app and operating-system compatibility can change.

Choose Lily 2 for a simpler, lower-cost entry
The base model suits someone who values the smaller case, silicone band and everyday wellness features, and is comfortable carrying a phone for GPS activities. It does not include Garmin Pay or built-in GPS. The original $249.99 USD launch MSRP is historical, not a promise of its current price.
Choose Lily 2 Classic for style and contactless payments
Classic is the pick if you want the smaller case with a nylon or Italian leather band and Garmin Pay. It retains connected GPS and the up-to-five-day advertised smartwatch battery of the base model, so it is not the choice for phone-free route recording.

Choose Lily 2 Active for phone-free GPS
Active makes sense if built-in GPS, Garmin Pay and a longer advertised battery rating are worth more to you than the smaller case or Classic’s band options. It costs more on the cited US Garmin listing and is larger; do not assume the upgrade is worthwhile if you mainly want notifications and basic wellness tracking.
Check the exact model before ordering
Retail listings may use “Lily 2” loosely for the family. Before checkout, confirm the full model name and part number, then check GPS, Garmin Pay, included band and case dimensions against the listing. Garmin identifies the US Lunar Gold/Bone Silicone Band Active configuration as part number 010-02891-00. Price, colors and availability vary by region and SKU; Garmin’s Classic page and Active page are useful checks.
When a different watch makes more sense
Look at a larger Garmin if training depth, detailed GPS workouts, maps or a larger display outrank jewelry-like styling. An Apple Watch may suit an iPhone owner who prioritizes a broad app ecosystem and smart features; Fitbit is another option for buyers focused on basic wellness tracking and its ecosystem. Compare current models, compatibility, features and prices directly: those alternatives change over time, and this guide does not establish their current prices.
