Garmin’s headline averages for 2024
Garmin published its 2024 Garmin Connect Data Report on December 12, 2024. It describes trends among Garmin customers around the world. The figures below are reported by Garmin, and each metric describes a different aspect of activity or wellbeing.
| Metric | Garmin’s 2024 average | What Garmin reported |
|---|---|---|
| Daily steps | 8,317 per day | Hong Kong had the highest country average; Indonesia had the lowest. Garmin’s newsroom summary does not provide country-level step figures. |
| Sleep score | 71 | Garmin classifies 71 as “Fair.” The Netherlands had the highest country average; Indonesia had the lowest. |
| Stress score | 30 | Mondays were the least stressful day on average and Saturdays the most stressful. Malaysia had the highest country average; South Korea had the lowest. |
| Training readiness | 60 | Garmin described this as moderate readiness. New Zealand had the highest country average; South Korea had the lowest. |
| Fitness age | 2.48 years younger than chronological age | Garmin estimates fitness age using BMI, average resting heart rate, and average vigorous activity, comparing users with people of similar age and gender. |
| Body Battery | 71 | The Netherlands had the highest country average; Japan had the lowest. |
Garmin’s 2024 report also notes that Body Battery incorporates physical activity, stress, heart rate, rest, and sleep. Garmin describes it as a measure of personal energy levels throughout the day, not an independently validated measure of health.

How to compare your Garmin numbers fairly
Use the averages as reference points, not targets. A meaningful comparison depends on matching the metric, time period, and kind of data being compared.

- Compare like with like: Steps, sleep score, stress score, training readiness, fitness age, and Body Battery measure different things. A higher or lower value in one cannot substitute for another.
- Match the period: Compare your 2024 annual average with Garmin’s 2024 figure. A current week or a single day is not equivalent to a year-long average.
- Keep the reference group in mind: These are averages for Garmin Connect users, not for everyone in your country, age group, or activity level.
- Account for your device and data: Available metrics depend on compatible Garmin devices, recorded data, and account use. Different data coverage can affect what you can compare.
Garmin’s report does not state the number of users included, the sampling method, confidence intervals, or enough detail to assess how geographically representative the figures are. Treat the averages as a snapshot of Garmin’s customer community rather than a benchmark for the general population.
What the scores can—and cannot—tell you
Garmin’s stress score is a 0–100 metric calculated mostly from heart rate and heart-rate variability. Body Battery is presented as an energy-monitoring feature. Neither should be treated as a diagnosis or as a substitute for medical advice: Garmin’s report says its data is not intended to diagnose or monitor medical conditions.

Garmin’s Connect privacy policy, dated September 6, 2024, says users can choose to upload activity, health, and wellness data, control whether others can see activity data, and participate in Insights where available. It also describes comparisons with aggregated community data and analysis of aggregated information to identify trends and publish statistics. The policy is useful context for how customer data may inform reports, but it is not confirmation of the current privacy settings; check Garmin’s current policy and account controls for those.
