The roughly 64-minute episode listing points to a wide-ranging discussion of media independence, luxury marketing, the U.S. market, watch events and American production. Its chapter outline is a guide to the topics—not a verified transcript of the speakers’ exact remarks.
Who is on the episode, and what does it cover?
Adams speaks with Girdvainis about changes in the relationships among watch brands, media, retailers and consumers. The listing’s chapter sequence moves from Girdvainis’s background to media and brand influence, his history with International Watch magazine, luxury marketing and Franck Muller. It then turns to Swiss brands in the U.S. market, whether America needs a major watch show, and the economics of American watchmaking. The episode listing names his current work in connection with FTS and Nivada Grenchen, but does not identify a Nivada model.

Watch journalism sits in a market where brands, retailers and media all have commercial relationships, while readers want useful coverage that is not simply advertising. The episode’s outline signals that Girdvainis and Adams examine how those relationships have changed, alongside Girdvainis’s experience with International Watch. Without a verified transcript, it is not possible to attribute a specific position or anecdote to either speaker; the reliable takeaway is that editorial independence and brand influence are among the episode’s stated subjects.

What does the U.S. market look like in the current export figures?
Swiss export data provide context for the episode’s interest in Swiss brands and the U.S. market, but exports are not the same as retail sales or any one brand’s revenue.
- Calendar year 2025: The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FH) reported Swiss watch exports of CHF 25.6 billion, 1.7% below 2024. Export volume was 14.6 million watches, down 4.8%. FH described 2025 as a second consecutive year of decline and cited uncertainty, U.S. trade policy and weakness in China among the conditions. FH’s 2025 export report provides the figures and context.
- First half of 2026: FH reported CHF 12.2 billion in wristwatch exports, down 0.6% from the same period a year earlier, and noted uncertainty around possible U.S. tariffs. This is a half-year wristwatch export figure, not a full-year result. FH’s first-half 2026 update gives the period-specific data.
These figures help explain why U.S. market access and trade policy are relevant industry questions; they do not establish how American consumers feel about a particular brand or how any individual company performed.

Does America need a major watch show?
The episode listing presents this as a chapter question, not as a documented conclusion. A major U.S. event could, in principle, give brands, retailers, media and enthusiasts a shared venue, but the listing does not establish that Adams or Girdvainis endorse a particular show or format. It is best read as part of a broader discussion about how the industry reaches its U.S. audience.
What counts as American watchmaking?
Domestic watch production can mean different things: making particular components in the United States, assembling a watch there, or producing a finished watch from predominantly domestic parts. Those are distinct claims and should not be collapsed into a general label.

FTS says its Ameriquartz work includes U.S.-made electronic circuit boards and batteries, with additional domestic components in development. The company also describes engineering, sourcing, assembly and manufacturing services intended to help watch brands onshore production. These are FTS’s own descriptions of its work, not independent verification that a particular finished watch qualifies under an “all or virtually all” U.S.-origin standard. See FTS on making Ameriquartz parts in America and FTS on American watch manufacturing and assembly.
The episode listing connects Girdvainis with FTS and Nivada Grenchen, but it does not specify a Nivada model or establish that a particular watch is made in the United States. The manufacturing discussion is therefore most useful as a look at the practical distinctions among sourcing, components, assembly and domestic production—not as proof of a product-origin claim.
