Google began bringing Gemini to Wear OS watches in July 2025, including Samsung watches. The rollout was announced for watches running Wear OS 4 or later, but eligibility and available features depend on the specific watch, account and market. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 series shipped with Gemini ready; Google later described wrist-raise activation on Galaxy Watch9.
Which Samsung watches support Gemini?
Google’s July 2025 announcement named Samsung among the Wear OS brands included in its rollout to watches running Wear OS 4 or later. It said availability would expand over the following weeks, not that every eligible watch would receive Gemini at once. The announcement does not provide a complete model-by-model list, so Wear OS version alone should not be treated as confirmation for every Samsung watch. Google’s Wear OS Gemini announcement
Galaxy Watch8
Google said the Galaxy Watch8 series was the first to come with Gemini ready out of the box. For the Watch8 series, Google also says Gemini works with Samsung Health, Calendar, Reminder and Clock on Wear OS 6. The app integrations are specific to that announcement; they should not be assumed to work identically on every Wear OS watch. Google’s Galaxy Watch announcement
Galaxy Watch9
In July 2026, Google described a wrist-raise interaction for Galaxy Watch9: users can raise their wrist to activate Gemini without saying a wake word. That is a specific Watch9 example, not evidence that all Samsung watches support the same activation method. Google’s Galaxy Watch announcement

How do I start Gemini on a Wear OS watch?
Google lists three ways to start Gemini on Wear OS. The available wake-word option may vary by region.
- Say “Hey Google,” where hotword support is available in your region.
- Press and hold the watch’s side button.
- Tap the Gemini app icon on the watch.

What can Gemini do on a smartwatch?
Google’s examples include asking questions in natural language, setting reminders, and asking Gemini to remember a short detail such as where you left a locker key or parked your car. Google also describes using context from apps to help answer questions. These are examples of possible tasks, not a guarantee that every request or app connection works on every watch configuration. Check responses for accuracy, as Google advises.
Gemini and Gemini Intelligence are different feature waves
Basic Gemini on Wear OS should not be confused with Gemini Intelligence, a later set of features Google announced for select Wear OS 7 devices. In June 2026, Google said those devices would receive Gemini Intelligence features later in 2026; the announcement described planned availability, not a feature set already present on every Wear OS 7 watch. Custom widgets and app automation
Google’s examples include Create My Widget, which builds a custom dashboard from a natural-language request, and multi-step app automation. These features are for select devices, and Google’s announcement does not establish that they will come to every Galaxy Watch or every watch that already has basic Gemini. Google’s May 2026 Android announcement also described watches as among the devices expected to get Gemini Intelligence later in 2026. Google’s Android Gemini Intelligence announcement
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before expecting Gemini on your watch
- Exact watch model: Google’s announcements confirm the Wear OS 4-or-later rollout baseline and name Samsung, but do not publish a complete current Samsung compatibility list.
- Region and language: Google says Gemini mobile app availability is limited to select devices, languages and countries; hotword access may also vary by region.
- Phone and connection: A compatible watch must be connected to a compatible device. Internet access and setup may be required.
- Account and subscription: Available features can vary according to account and subscription.
Because eligibility can vary, check Google’s current instructions and the support information for your exact watch and market rather than assuming that every Samsung watch qualifies. Google’s availability and setup information
