The Time+Tide recap by Russell Sheldrake, published on 31 August 2024, names the panelists and describes their discussion, but it does not identify specific watches they presented.
What happened at Geneva Watch Days 2024?
Sheldrake’s Friday Wind Down sets the scene around the Beau Rivage during a hot Geneva summer. Its central event is a panel about young independent “pirate” watch brands: how founders get a brand started, how the pandemic affected the business, and what it is like to operate as a one-person company. How Geneva Watch Days was organized
The fifth Geneva Watch Days ran from 29 August to 2 September 2024. Its format combined a shared pavilion with decentralized brand venues, including boutiques and hotels. The official event release said the pavilion was open to the public in the afternoons, with more than 100 watches on display and public programming led by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH). The organizer described the gathering as “not a trade show, but a major, inclusive and festive event that celebrates watchmaking.”
The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry’s 12 September 2024 retrospective reported 52 participating brands, nearly 1,500 watchmaking professionals—including 650 media representatives and 250 retailers—and 13,800 pavilion visitors across the five public days. It also reported that more than 100 new timepieces were displayed. These are completed-event figures from the Federation, distinct from the organizer’s pre-event attendance expectations.

Separate mentions in the recap
IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic Edition RAAF
A separate wristshot item in the article features the IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic Edition RAAF. Sheldrake describes it as available only to current or former Royal Australian Air Force members. The article notes a black ceramic case, dark blue dial, Mark XI-inspired details including a squared-off hour hand, and a titanium caseback with the RAAF roundel. It also says owners can personalize the watch with a name, callsign or nickname.
