When did Longines introduce the black-dial Type A-7?
Longines introduced this black-dial variation in 2020 as a reinterpretation of a Type A-7 model ordered by the U.S. Air Force in 1935. It followed the white-lacquered-dial version, which had launched in 2016, according to Europa Star’s August 2020 release coverage. The year in the model name refers to the historical design; it is not the black version’s launch year.

Longines describes its aviation association as extending back almost a century and highlights models including the Avigation BigEye, Weems Second-Setting Watch and Lindbergh Hour Angle Watch on its aviation heritage page.
Why is the dial angled?
The dial is rotated 40 degrees to the right. Time and Watches’ 2020 coverage explains the orientation as a way for a pilot to read the dial while keeping a hand on the aircraft’s control yoke. That is the reported design rationale, rather than evidence of a newly conducted test.

What are the specifications of reference L2.812.4.53.2?
The current Longines Mexico product listing identifies the watch as a 41 mm stainless-steel automatic chronograph with a black dial, date and alligator leather strap. Its listed specifications are:
- Movement: automatic mechanical calibre L788, stated at 28,800 alternations per hour.
- Power reserve: approximately 60 hours, according to the current Longines Mexico listing.
- Case: 41 mm stainless steel.
- Dial and crystal: black dial with Swiss Super-LumiNova; scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with multiple anti-reflective layers.
- Water resistance: 3 bar.
- Strap: alligator leather with buckle; the listing gives a 21 mm lug distance.

Why do sources give different power-reserve figures?
Launch-era and current specifications do not match exactly. Monochrome Watches’ 2020 coverage names calibre L788.2 and reports a 54-hour reserve. The current Longines Mexico listing names calibre L788 and gives approximately 60 hours. The available information does not establish why the specifications differ, so the figures should be treated as source- and listing-specific rather than combined into one definitive number.

The official Longines Mexico listing shows a price of MXN 85,680 and warns that availability is not guaranteed.
