Revolution’s 2 October 2026 video feature brings together Gerald Charles CEO Federico Ziviani and interviewer Wei Koh at Geneva Watch Days to consider a pointed question: “In an increasingly digital world, why does the mechanical watch seem to matter more than ever?” Its focal point is the Masterlink Atelier Edition, whose hand-hammered dial makes craft and individuality tangible rather than abstract themes.
What the Revolution feature covers
The video feature, “Gerald Charles Masterlink Atelier: Federico Ziviani on Craft in a Digital Age”, was published by Revolution Watch on 2 October 2026. At Geneva Watch Days, Wei Koh speaks with Ziviani about mechanical watchmaking in a digital culture, younger collectors and the Masterlink Atelier Edition.
The digital-age question is the feature’s framing, not evidence of a measured shift in consumer behavior. The material presented does not establish that younger collectors generally prefer mechanical watches, or that digital culture has caused demand for them to rise.
Masterlink Atelier Edition: the reported specifications
Revolution describes the Atelier Edition’s dial as maillechort, or nickel-silver, hammered individually by hand. Revolution does not identify technical differences among the three executions beyond their dial finishes. The feature does not state a price or market-by-market availability, so those details cannot be inferred from its description.
Why the dial suits the feature’s theme
The Atelier dial gives Revolution’s discussion of craft a specific object: a hand-worked surface whose appearance varies with the light. The feature interprets that manual variation as a contrast with the uniformity associated with digital life, and connects it to permanence and personal expression. That is an editorial reading of the watch, not a quantified claim about collectors or the market.

Ziviani has offered a related view in a separate interview. Speaking with Swisswatches Magazine in 2025, he described a watch as a meeting of engineering, beauty, aesthetics and comfort, and said Gerald Charles aims to balance its design legacy with everyday wearability. He also characterized the Masterlink and Maestro lines as having distinct design directions. These are his stated priorities, rather than independently measured assessments of the watches.
Ziviani’s account of the 2019 relaunch
Revolution’s feature recounts Ziviani’s version of Gerald Charles’s 2019 relaunch: he says the project began with a three-person team and that he sold watches from his own collection to help fund it. This is the account presented in the interview; the feature’s synopsis does not provide further detail that would support a fuller reconstruction of the company’s early financing or operations.

What the feature does—and does not—establish
- It presents the Masterlink Atelier Edition through its hand-hammered maillechort dial and reported case and movement specifications.
- It offers Ziviani’s perspective on mechanical watchmaking, design and wearability, alongside Revolution’s interpretation of handwork as a source of individuality.
- It does not supply market statistics, evidence of a general change in younger collectors’ preferences, current retail pricing, or regional availability.
The result is best read as a conversation about the meaning of craft, illustrated by a particular watch—not as proof that digital life has produced a broad mechanical-watch revival.
