Why the watch uses jumping hours
Gerald Charles says the jumping-hour layout was chosen because it does not need a conventional hour hand. The hour appears through an aperture at the top of the dial, leaving the lower portion open for the sculpture. The mechanism accumulates energy over sixty minutes before advancing the hour disc in a near-instantaneous jump, according to the maker.

Where do the auction proceeds go?
Phillips says the first two TimeForArt editions raised $2.4 million for Swiss Institute. It states that 100% of proceeds from the watch auction, including Phillips’ buyer’s premium, benefit the Institute. The miniature dial sculpture belongs to the watch project; published auction records for larger bronze works with similar titles concern separate objects. Christie’s 2024 New York day-sale catalog lists a 2014 bronze titled Luci di Nara Pietrificata, number 1 from an edition of eight plus four artist’s proofs, measuring 106 × 100 × 82 cm. Dorotheum records a different Luci di Nara bronze, dated circa 1998 and numbered 5/8, measuring 49.5 cm including its plinth.
