What is the Gentissima Oursin?
“Oursin” is French for sea urchin. Accounts of the design connect it to a Gérald Genta watch from 1994 and to family holidays in Corsica, where Genta was struck by sea urchins. The case’s bead-like decoration turns that natural reference into a sculptural watch. The 2024 return was presented as an evolution of the earlier design. Hodinkee’s launch coverage and Le Monde’s reporting describe that background.
Le Monde attributes this comment to Evelyne Genta, Gérald Genta’s widow: “La montre Oursin fait partie des quelques créations de Gérald dont il était le plus fier” (“The Oursin watch is one of the few creations of Gérald’s of which he was most proud,” translated from French). The collection’s appeal is chiefly its distinctive case and material combinations; the available reporting does not establish independent performance testing.

What are the reported specifications of the 36.5 mm model?
For the original 36.5 mm model, Hodinkee reports a 9.6 mm thickness, 30 m water resistance, hours-and-minutes display and automatic calibre GG-005 with a 50-hour power reserve. Launch coverage describes the calibre as based on the Zenith Elite movement. These are specifications reported for the original model, not a verified specification sheet for every later Oursin reference. Confirm the exact reference before relying on a specification for a purchase.
What versions and materials have been reported?
36.5 mm: varied gem and color treatments
Launch reporting describes a Grade 5 titanium version with white-gold beads and an anthracite dial; a titanium model with pink mother-of-pearl and pink-gold diamond-set details; and a DLC-coated titanium version with yellow-gold details. Later releases broadened the palette with fire opal, burgundy and black onyx. The combination of case treatment, dial and precious-material details varies by version rather than defining a single uniform 36.5 mm specification. 41 mm: meteorite dial and white-gold beads
The reported Oursin 41 release has a titanium case, 234 white-gold beads and blue or green meteorite dials, paired with a textured rubber strap. It is not simply a larger version with the same dial and strap choices as the smaller watches; its reported materials give it its own visual character. Le Monde quotes Matthieu Hegi, artistic director of La Fabrique du temps, on the faceted crystal: “La glace facettée rend hommage à la passion de Gérald Genta pour l’octogone” (“The faceted crystal pays homage to Gérald Genta’s passion for the octagon,” translated from French).
