The Girard-Perregaux Casquette 2.0 is the choice for an actual on-demand quartz LED display and more functions; the AMIDA Digitrend is a mechanical automatic with a continuously visible, prism-reflected readout. Both revisit 1970s driver-watch design, but they deliver very different experiences. Choose by how you want to read the time and what you want the movement to do—not by which one looks more digital.
At a glance: the essential differences
| Feature | Girard-Perregaux Casquette 2.0 Titanium & Gold | AMIDA Digitrend Steel |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Quartz, GP3980-1474 | Soprod Newton P092 automatic with a Digitrend-specific jumping-hour module |
| How the time appears | Electronic LED display, activated on demand | Hours and minutes reflected through a sapphire prism; the display is continuously visible |
| Functions | Hours, minutes, seconds, day, date, month, year, chronograph, second time zone, and user-set secret date | Jumping hours and sweeping minutes |
| Case and materials | Titanium; 18K 2N yellow-gold logo and pushers; sapphire glass and titanium case back | Satin-brushed and polished 316L stainless steel; sapphire crystal prism |
| Dimensions | 42.40 × 33.60 mm; 14.64 mm thick | 39.6 mm wide × 39 mm long; 15.6 mm thick |
| Water resistance | 50 m | 5 ATM / 50 m |
| Other specifications | GP calls this Titanium & Gold edition limited to 820 pieces | 44-hour power reserve; 23 jewels; 28,800 vph (4 Hz); 110 g; 22 mm lug width |
Dimensions are given in the brands’ respective formats: GP lists two case measurements before thickness, while AMIDA identifies width and length. The first figure in each set therefore should not be treated as the same case axis. These figures help frame the fit, but the watches’ distinct shapes make trying them on especially useful.
Display: on-demand LED or optical prism?
Casquette 2.0: a real electronic LED readout
The Casquette’s display lights when you request it rather than remaining on continuously. Girard-Perregaux says this on-demand operation preserves battery life. It suits a wearer who likes pressing a control to check the time and wants more information than hours and minutes: the current GP movement also provides seconds, calendar details, a chronograph, a second time zone, and a secret date.
Digitrend: a mechanical watch with a digital-looking view
The Digitrend’s vertically read hour and minute discs are seen through a sapphire prism. AMIDA explicitly says, “There is no luminous or electronic display.” The appearance is an optical effect produced by the prism, not an LED screen. Its readout stays visible, which may appeal if you prefer to glance at the time without activating a display.

- Micro Light, Hourly Time Signal, Auto Calendar
- 12/24 Hour Formats
- Dial Code: Digital
- Water Resistant
- Daily Alarm
Neither arrangement is a universal legibility winner. The Casquette requires an interaction to show its LED readout; the Digitrend keeps its reflected display in view. Which feels more natural is a matter of preference, not a measured performance difference.
Movement and everyday functions
Quartz versatility: Girard-Perregaux
The Casquette runs on GP’s quartz GP3980-1474 movement. Beyond timekeeping, its digital module adds practical information and timing tools: seconds, day, date, month, year, chronograph, second time zone, and a user-set secret date. It is the more feature-rich choice if you want a retro-futurist watch to do more than show the time.
Rank #2
- Retro Black Square Design: The angular black case, integrated strap and blue-accented digital dial create a classic electronic sport watch look. Its understated color makes it easy to wear for school, work, travel, exercise and everyday activities
- Dual Time and Useful Functions: View two time zones on one watch and access an alarm, stopwatch, countdown timer, date, weekday display and selectable 12- or 24-hour format for everyday timekeeping needs
- Clear Digital Display and Backlight: Large digital numbers make the time easy to read at a glance. The built-in LED backlight improves visibility in dark or low-light environments, while clearly marked side buttons provide convenient function control
- 50M Water Resistant: Designed to withstand rain, handwashing and everyday splashes. Do not press the buttons underwater, and avoid hot water, saunas, diving or prolonged underwater use to help maintain water resistance
- Lightweight Everyday Comfort: The durable lightweight case and flexible black strap provide a secure, comfortable fit for extended wear. Suitable for men, women and teens who want a practical digital watch for sports and casual use
Automatic mechanics: AMIDA
The Digitrend uses a Soprod Newton P092 automatic movement coupled to a module for its jumping-hour display. The hour changes in jumps while the minutes sweep; AMIDA specifies a 44-hour power reserve, 23 jewels, and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). Its appeal is the mechanical way it produces the unusual readout, rather than a long list of digital functions.

AMIDA Digitrend Steel
The Steel model uses satin-brushed and polished 316L stainless steel. Its case is 39.6 mm wide by 39 mm long and 15.6 mm thick; the sapphire crystal is shaped as the prism that creates the optical readout. AMIDA lists an Alcantara strap or metal bracelet option and a 22 mm lug width, useful details if you are considering a replacement strap. Lug width alone does not establish that every third-party strap will fit the case correctly.
The Digitrend is narrower by the stated width figures, but its listed thickness is greater. Because the shapes and dimension conventions differ, numbers alone cannot settle how either watch will sit on an individual wrist. If possible, try the exact version and strap or bracelet you plan to wear.

Water resistance and practical limits
Both brands rate these watches to 50 m: GP states 50 m for the Casquette, and AMIDA lists 5 ATM / 50 meters for the Digitrend. Those specifications are not proof that either model is appropriate for every water activity; follow the manufacturer’s use guidance and care instructions.

Both draw on 1970s driver-watch styling, but their origins and modern editions are distinct. Girard-Perregaux says the original Casquette was introduced in 1976 and produced from 1976 to 1978, with 8,200 pieces made. GP’s modern Titanium & Gold edition is limited to 820 pieces. AMIDA says the Digitrend debuted at Baselworld in March 1976 and returned in 2024. The shared era explains their visual kinship; it does not make their displays or movements equivalent.
Which should you choose?
Choose the Casquette 2.0 if you want
- An actual electronic LED time display that appears on demand.
- Quartz operation and multiple added functions, including calendar, chronograph, and second time zone.
- A titanium case accented with 18K 2N yellow gold.
- A watch whose interaction—pressing to reveal the time—is part of the appeal.
Choose the Digitrend if you want
- An automatic movement and a mechanically driven jumping-hour display.
- A continuously visible, prism-reflected readout rather than an electronic screen.
- A stainless-steel case and a display mechanism that is the watch’s central technical feature.
- A 22 mm lug width and the listed strap or bracelet options, while checking third-party strap fit before buying.
In a November 10, 2024 Fratello comparison, the writers expressed different preferences: Thomas favored the Casquette’s narrower profile, finishing, and extra functions but disliked the lack of an always-on display; Daan preferred the Digitrend’s continuously visible display and rounded case and questioned the Casquette’s button-based interaction. Those are individual editorial opinions, not controlled tests or a consensus among wearers.
The core decision is straightforward: pick GP for a feature-rich quartz LED watch, or AMIDA for a mechanical jumping-hour watch with an optical, always-visible readout. Try both if fit and the feel of the display interaction will decide the purchase.
