What is a Girard-Perregaux Richeville Chronograph?
The Richeville is a shaped-case Girard-Perregaux chronograph. Christie’s describes the series as having launched in the 1960s and being revived in the early 1990s, while characterizing it as “a hidden gem” among watch aficionados. That phrase is Christie’s auction-house description, not a documented consensus or a complete production history. The available records do not establish a full timeline for every chronograph reference.

Which Richeville Chronograph reference is this?
Do not assume that two watches called “Richeville Chronograph” share the same movement or configuration. The auction descriptions below establish specific examples, not specifications that can be applied to every watch carrying the reference.

The table reflects the details reported in the auction records; missing details are not grounds to infer a specification. In particular, the manual-wind description of the documented 2710 examples does not apply to reference 2750, which Monaco Legend Auctions lists with automatic calibre 3080.

How should you compare individual examples?
Compare watches in an order that prevents a superficial match—such as the same family name or case shape—from being mistaken for a like-for-like comparison.
- Confirm the reference and movement. Establish the reference from reliable documentation and check that the movement description fits that reference and watch. The documented 2710 examples are manual wind; the documented 2750 example is automatic.
- Record case metal and dimensions. Steel and rose-gold 2710 examples are both documented, and the cited lots describe them as about 35 mm. Do not assume another Richeville has those materials or dimensions.
- Compare the dial and layout. The two cited 2710 lots differ: one has a silver-coloured dial, while the other has blue Roman numerals and a tachymeter. Record the visible registers, hands and other details rather than relying on a generic model name.
- Assess the individual watch. Review condition, originality, service history, provenance and included accessories. The auction records do not supply standardized condition grades or a common adjustment for these factors.
- Read sale evidence in context. Note the sale date, currency, whether the figure includes buyer’s premium or taxes, and whether the compared lots are genuinely similar.
What do past Richeville auction prices tell you?
Two Dorotheum results provide dated examples, not a current valuation. Dorotheum recorded EUR 3,072 for a circa-2000 rose-gold reference 2710 on 25 June 2021; that amount includes buyer’s premium and VAT. On 3 June 2022, it recorded EUR 2,048 for a circa-2000 steel reference 2710 with manual-wind calibre 1872. These were different lots with different case materials and documented details, so the figures do not establish a like-for-like price trend.

Neither result is a current market appraisal. The available records do not provide standardized adjustments for condition, service history, originality, accessories, geography or sale terms. Treat each realized price as evidence of what happened in that particular sale, not as a price target for a watch offered today.

Ask for the reference, movement details and available ownership, service and sale documentation, then assess whether those records correspond to the watch being offered. If you want information from the manufacturer’s records, Girard-Perregaux offers an archive extract for watches no longer in its current collection. The brand explicitly says an extract does not guarantee the authenticity of the watch or its components. It is distinct from the manufacturer’s separate certificate of authenticity, which involves a separate assessment.
