The porcelain dial
The dial starts as a thin slice of white Meissen porcelain. Successive layers of paint are applied by hand to build the blossoms and branches, and each layer is fired at 900°C before the next is added, according to the Hodinkee launch report. Repeated firing is what gives the painted motif its depth, because each layer is fixed before more colour goes on top.

Glashütte Original lettering and Meissen’s crossed-swords logo are painted near the centre of the dial. Because the dial is blank apart from this lettering and the motif, the painting is the only decorative element, and its placement determines how the hands read against it.

Case, strap and wearing size
At 40 mm across and 10.2 mm thick, the red-gold case is a moderate size for a dress watch. The 47.09 mm lug-to-lug length, which Monochrome Watches reports, is a more useful guide to fit than the diameter alone, because it determines how far the case extends across the wrist. The dark blue alligator strap and red-gold pin buckle continue the warm-metal palette.
The 5 bar (50 m) rating is suitable for splashes and rain, but it is not a diving spec. The sapphire caseback is exhibition-style, so the movement is visible.

Legibility without hour markers
The absence of indices is the main trade-off. Without numerals or markers, the time must be read from the hands and their position against the painted motif. The solid gold hands are the only elements that move across the painted surface, so they need enough contrast to stand out. Launch coverage does not report a luminous treatment on the hands or dial, so do not assume the watch is legible in low light.

Because the euro figures differ by several thousand euros and neither is confirmed by the manufacturer, the USD price from Hodinkee is the figure to cite. Buyers outside the United States should ask an authorised Glashütte Original boutique for the local price, and should also confirm that the exact reference 1-36-16-05-05-01 is in stock, since we could not confirm the listing on the manufacturer’s own site at the time of writing.
