What makes a strap suitable for fixed lugs?
Fixed lugs have bars that do not accept standard removable spring bars. A strap therefore needs to pass around the bars or use another attachment made for them. The main options are a pass-through strap, a folded fixed-lug leather strap such as GLC’s, and an open-ended strap secured with a metal bracket.
There is no universal fit guarantee across fixed-bar watches: bar spacing, case geometry, and the strap’s dimensions all matter. Check the watch’s actual internal width and compare it with the strap’s lug-end width before buying.
How GLC’s fixed-lug fastening works
In Balazs Ferenczi’s September 27, 2023 Fratello review, the GLC strap’s longer end is threaded through the bar, folded back toward the lining, and held by an integrated metal flap pressed through slits. The review contrasts this arrangement with an open-hook strap, which the reviewer said could come off while removing the watch, and an adhesive design that became difficult to remove after activation. These current product-page dimensions are not the same as the measurements reported for the sample straps in the 2023 Fratello review. That article describes its 18 mm lug-end examples as tapering to 14 mm at the buckle and measuring 1.8 mm thick. Treat those figures as specific to the reviewed examples, not as specifications for every current GLC strap.
What to check before ordering
- Measure the watch’s internal lug width. Compare it with the strap’s width at the bar; do not assume all watches with fixed bars share dimensions.
- Confirm the attachment suits the bars. Check whether the strap threads and folds around the bar or uses a bracket, and make sure the case allows the strap to lie correctly.
- Compare thickness and taper. A strap that fits the width may still feel or look different at the case and buckle. Use the measurements for the exact product, not a historical review sample.
- Check the length and buckle. Compare both strap sides and the buckle width with your wearing preference and any buckle you intend to use.
- Verify the live listing. GLC says customers can contact it about custom orders or a desired size that is out of stock; confirm any custom fit, availability, price, and delivery details directly.
Verdict: who should consider GLC’s design?
GLC’s folded-and-flapped leather construction is worth considering if you want a leather look on a fixed-bar watch and prefer an attachment other than pass-through nylon. Its current M5 listing provides concrete dimensions to compare with your watch. Choose based on measured fit and the closure you are comfortable using; the available sources do not establish universal compatibility or independently tested security.
