The Fitbit Edge is Google’s screen-equipped fitness tracker for people who want more than the screenless Fitbit Air but do not need a full smartwatch. It adds on-device GPS and a broader reported set of health sensors, while leaving out features such as downloadable apps, contactless payments and voice interaction. The details below were reported by Ars Technica on October 12, 2026, with product claims attributed to Google; current prices and availability may have changed.
What the Fitbit Edge adds
Ars Technica reports that the Edge has a pill-shaped 1.34-inch OLED touchscreen in an aluminum frame, a single tactile side button, Bluetooth 5.4 and IP68 and 5 ATM protection. Google reportedly says the screen has 46 percent more viewable area than the Fitbit Charge 6. That is a screen-area comparison, not a claim that the Edge has more functionality than a smartwatch.

Compared with the screenless Fitbit Air, the Edge brings a display and on-device GPS. Its reported sensors include ECG, blood oxygen, optical heart rate, skin temperature and altitude. Google reportedly cautions that its GPS is less accurate than the dual-band GPS in the Pixel Watch 5. The report does not provide independent performance testing of the GPS or sensors.
Battery life and data storage
Google’s reported battery claim is up to seven days per charge under normal use, although the report does not fully specify those conditions. With the always-on display enabled, the estimate falls to about two days. Treat both figures as manufacturer claims rather than independently measured results.

The Edge reportedly stores seven days of full health data when away from the phone, or 30 days of basic data. Ars Technica also reports that multiple Google wearables can feed the Google Health app, formerly Fitbit, which switches data collection to the device being worn.
What it cannot do like a smartwatch
The Edge mirrors phone notifications and offers preset quick replies, alongside a finite selection of fitness experiences and watch faces. It does not have a downloadable app store, NFC or Google Wallet, a microphone, a speaker, or Gemini interaction. If you want to install apps, make contactless payments from your wrist, or use voice features, the Edge’s tracker-first design is a meaningful limitation.
