The Google Pixel Watch 4 leak was largely accurate—but it is no longer a leak. Google officially announced the Pixel Watch 4 on August 20, 2025, and began US availability on October 9, 2025. Its confirmed specifications include 41mm and 45mm case sizes, a peak-brightness Actua 360 display rated at up to 3,000 nits, a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform paired with a Cortex-M55 coprocessor, faster charging, dual-frequency GPS and Google-rated battery life of up to 30 or 40 hours with the always-on display enabled.

There is one important 2026 caveat: Google unveiled the newer Pixel Watch 5 on August 12, 2026. The Pixel Watch 4 remains worth considering mainly when discounted or when its specific feature set is enough for you.

What the original Pixel Watch 4 leak got right

The pre-launch reporting was based on official-looking presentation material circulated before Google’s announcement. It claimed that the watch would arrive in two sizes, use a domed Actua 360 display, reach 3,000 nits, offer approximately 30- and 40-hour battery estimates, charge faster and use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 alongside a Cortex-M55 coprocessor.

It also pointed to dual-frequency GPS, Wear OS 6 and satellite emergency communication on supported versions and markets. Those were leak claims at the time and should be attributed to the original reporting—not treated as independently measured results. After launch, Google’s specifications confirmed the central hardware claims.

“Two chips” meaning two equivalent main processors Misleading. The design combines one primary Snapdragon platform with a lower-power coprocessor.

Dual chips does not mean two equal processors

The Pixel Watch 4’s “dual-chip” design consists of:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2: the primary wearable platform that runs the main Wear OS experience and handles demanding processing.
  • Cortex-M55: a lower-power coprocessor intended for background work and selected always-on or sensor-related tasks.

This is a hybrid architecture, not dual-core Wear OS performance and not two equivalent application processors. The purpose is to avoid waking the higher-power Snapdragon chip for every small task. In principle, that can help power management and background activity while allowing the main platform to remain available when the watch needs more processing.

Qualcomm describes the W5 Gen 2 as a 4nm wearable platform and identifies the Pixel Watch 4 as its launch device. Its emphasis is on efficiency, location features and satellite connectivity. Third-party analysis has suggested that the platform may not produce a dramatic raw performance increase over the previous W5 Gen 1, even though the coprocessor and efficiency changes could matter more in daily use. That is analysis, not an independently verified Pixel Watch 4 benchmark.

The safe conclusion is that the architecture is primarily about responsiveness, power management, background processing and connectivity—not a guaranteed transformational increase in app speed.

Display: 3,000 nits is a peak figure

The Pixel Watch 4 uses an Actua 360 domed display with custom 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The panel is an AMOLED LTPO display with 320 pixels per inch, DCI-P3 color and a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 60Hz. It supports an always-on display and can dim to 1 nit in always-on mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Up to 3,000 nits peak brightness
  • Approximately 10% more active display area
  • Approximately 15% smaller bezels
  • Google claims the display is 50% brighter than the preceding model
  • Always-on display support
  • 1Hz–60Hz responsive refresh rate

The 3,000-nit number is a peak brightness rating, not a promise that the entire screen will remain at 3,000 nits throughout the day. Automatic brightness, heat, battery settings, ambient conditions and the size or duration of the bright area can affect what you see outdoors. It should improve visibility in strong sunlight, but peak specifications should not be confused with sustained full-screen brightness.

Battery life and charging

The two sizes have materially different batteries and endurance ratings. The larger model is the better choice if you want the longest runtime.

41mm Pixel Watch 4

  • Battery: 325mAh typical capacity
  • Normal rated use: up to 30 hours with the always-on display enabled
  • Battery Saver: up to 48 hours
  • Charging: approximately 15 minutes to 50%, 25 minutes to 80% and 45 minutes to 100%

45mm Pixel Watch 4

  • Battery: 455mAh typical capacity
  • Normal rated use: up to 40 hours with the always-on display enabled
  • Battery Saver: up to 72 hours
  • Charging: approximately 15 minutes to 50%, 30 minutes to 80% and 60 minutes to 100%

Google says these maximum estimates are approximate and based on pre-production hardware and software under a defined usage profile. They are not guaranteed real-world runtimes. LTE, GPS workouts, calls, music playback, frequent screen wakeups, high brightness, health sensors and satellite communication can all reduce endurance.

Battery Saver figures are also not directly comparable with the always-on estimates because the watch operates with reduced functionality or different power-management behavior. The 45mm model’s 40-hour claim applies only to that size; it should not be used as the battery figure for the 41mm version.

Charging uses Google’s proprietary Quick Charge Dock. That makes the faster top-ups useful, but it also means you should account for the dock when planning travel or replacing accessories. Do not assume generic Qi charging compatibility.

  • Detects loss of pulse, then calls for help: Pixel Watch 5 is the only smartwatch to feature Loss of Pulse Detection, which can prompt a call to emergency services[10]

Google’s support specification page provides the battery and charging qualifications.

Connectivity, GPS and satellite communication

The Pixel Watch 4 is available with optional 4G LTE/UMTS connectivity. Google’s current US listing also includes Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi, NFC and ultra-wideband on listed configurations. Check the specification page for your country before buying: LTE bands, cellular availability and other radio details are not necessarily identical worldwide.

Dual-frequency GPS is one of the more meaningful upgrades for navigation. The watch supports GPS, Galileo and GLONASS, with additional satellite systems or different listings possible in regional versions. Dual-frequency positioning can help a compatible device resist some signal reflections and maintain a more reliable location estimate in difficult environments, such as dense urban areas. It does not make GPS immune to obstructions or guarantee perfect tracking.

Satellite SOS or satellite communication is similarly conditional. Availability can depend on the exact hardware, country, network or service arrangement, account status and a clear view of the sky. It should be treated as an emergency feature for supported situations—not as universal satellite messaging available everywhere.

Health and fitness hardware

The Pixel Watch 4 integrates with Fitbit and includes a broad sensor package:

  • ECG-compatible electrical sensors
  • Red and infrared sensors for SpO2-related functions
  • Multi-path optical heart-rate sensor
  • Skin-temperature sensor
  • cEDA/body-response sensor
  • Accelerometer
  • Gyroscope
  • Altimeter
  • Compass
  • Barometer
  • Magnetometer
  • Ambient-light sensor

Health availability is not uniform worldwide. ECG, oxygen-saturation features and some Fitbit functions can depend on regulatory approval, country, account type, compatible phone and subscription requirements. Sensor hardware alone does not mean that every associated measurement or feature is enabled in every market.

Wear OS 6.0 provides access to Google services including notifications, Google Maps, Google Wallet and music features, with Gemini-related functions where supported. Setup requires the Google Pixel Watch app, a Google Account and—according to Google’s current Store requirements—most Android phones running Android 11 or newer. The watch is Android-focused; do not buy it expecting current iPhone compatibility.

Materials, sizes and durability

Both versions use a 100% recycled aluminum housing and custom 3D Gorilla Glass 5. The 41mm case weighs approximately 31g without its band, while the 45mm case weighs approximately 36g. Both are approximately 12.3mm thick. Active bands are supplied in small and large sizes.

The watch is rated to 5 ATM and listed with IP68 dust and water resistance for relevant configurations and regions. Neither rating means unrestricted diving or permanent submersion. Water resistance can be affected by impact, aging, chemicals and repairs, so the ratings should be treated as protection for appropriate everyday exposure rather than a guarantee for every water activity.

Pixel Watch 4 versus Pixel Watch 3

The Pixel Watch 4’s most tangible improvements over the Pixel Watch 3 are not necessarily raw app performance. They are:

  • A brighter display rated at up to 3,000 nits
  • A larger active display area and smaller bezels
  • Longer Google-rated battery life
  • Faster charging
  • Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 with a Cortex-M55 coprocessor
  • Dual-frequency GPS
  • Satellite communication support on eligible configurations

That makes the upgrade most compelling for users who struggled with outdoor readability, charging frequency, GPS reliability or the previous model’s endurance. Owners of a recent Pixel Watch should not assume that every task will suddenly feel dramatically faster. The strongest everyday gains are display visibility, rated endurance, charging convenience and connectivity.

Should you buy the Pixel Watch 4 in 2026?

Consider the Pixel Watch 4 if you:

  • Use a Pixel phone and want close Google and Fitbit integration.
  • Prefer a compact circular smartwatch design.
  • Value a very bright display, dual-frequency GPS or supported satellite emergency features.
  • Want to choose between a lighter 41mm watch and a longer-lasting 45mm model.
  • Can buy it at a clear discount to the current-generation model.

Be cautious if you:

  • Use an iPhone.
  • Need several days of normal-use battery life without Battery Saver compromises.
  • Are an endurance athlete who prioritizes very long GPS sessions or extensive training analytics.
  • Dislike proprietary charging docks.
  • Are comparing the Pixel Watch 4 at near-launch pricing rather than a discounted price.

Which size is better?

Choose the 41mm model if a smaller, lighter watch matters most and a 30-hour rated runtime is sufficient. Choose the 45mm model if battery life is the priority: its 455mAh battery and 40-hour always-on estimate provide the clearest endurance advantage, at the cost of a larger and heavier case.

Verdict

The Pixel Watch 4 leak was unusually close to the final product. Google confirmed the two sizes, 3,000-nit Actua 360 display, separate 30- and 40-hour battery estimates, faster charging, Snapdragon W5 Gen 2, Cortex-M55 coprocessor, dual-frequency GPS and Wear OS 6.0.

The important correction is that “dual chips” does not mean two equal processors. It means a primary Snapdragon wearable platform working with a low-power M55 coprocessor. The watch’s biggest practical strengths are its display, charging speed, rated endurance and connectivity—not a proven dramatic leap in raw performance. In September 2026, buy it chiefly as a discounted Pixel Watch with strong Google/Fitbit integration, and check the Pixel Watch 5 before paying current-generation money.
