Google has announced two Android XR eyewear types: audio glasses for spoken assistance and display glasses that show information visually. Google said audio glasses would launch first, later in fall 2026; it did not give display glasses a launch window. That is an announced timing window, not a confirmed release date or proof that the glasses are currently available to buy.
Google’s two smart-glasses types
Google describes two kinds of intelligent eyewear within Android XR. The main difference is how each presents information:
| Type | How it presents information | Announced timing |
|---|---|---|
| Audio glasses | Spoken assistance in the wearer’s ear | Google said these would launch first, later in fall 2026 |
| Display glasses | Visual information shown to the wearer | No launch window was given in the cited announcement |
Google’s Android XR developer materials use the terms “audio glasses” and “display glasses.” That terminology clarifies the product categories; it does not establish a release date for display glasses.
