SLGW002 vs. SLGW003: the key differences
Grand Seiko introduced both watches in 2024 as part of its Evolution 9 collection. Their movement, core dimensions, dial inspiration and crocodile straps are shared; precious-metal construction and limited-edition status distinguish the SLGW002.

The shared specifications and the 80-piece limit come from Grand Seiko’s April 9, 2024 launch announcement. Grand Seiko Boutique US product pages also identify the two materials and the limited status of the SLGW002: SLGW002 and SLGW003. The US model page supplies the titanium watch’s additional figures and current published accuracy specifications: SLGW003 specifications.
What Caliber 9SA4 offers
Caliber 9SA4 is a manually wound, 10-beat-per-second mechanical movement. Its 36,000 vibrations per hour rate is paired with an approximately 80-hour power reserve and 47 jewels. Grand Seiko describes it as its first new manual-winding high-beat movement in more than 50 years.

According to the launch announcement, the reserve comes from a Dual Impulse Escapement and two barrels. The movement also uses a free-sprung balance and an overcoil hairspring. Grand Seiko says nearly 40 percent of the base movement was redesigned and reconstructed from Caliber 9SA5.
The winding details are part of the design, not independent performance findings. Grand Seiko says the crown stops when fully wound and that an indicator on a movement bridge shows the state of wind. Through the sapphire caseback, the winding click is shaped like a wagtail and moves as the watch is wound. The movement is manual, not automatic, so it does not wind itself through wrist motion.
How to read the SLGW003 accuracy figures
Grand Seiko’s US page gives two different figures that should not be conflated. Its stated mean daily rate is +5 to -3 seconds per day, calculated from measurements in six positions under controlled conditions over 12 days before casing. Its separate normal-usage accuracy specification is +8 to -1 seconds per day. These are manufacturer specifications, not a promise of the result for every individual watch.
White Birch dial and Evolution 9 design
The dial pattern takes inspiration from the bark of white birch trees near Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in northern Japan. In its editorial feature, Grand Seiko distinguishes this single-tree bark inspiration from the forest-inspired dial of the earlier SLGH005. The brand says the irregular, three-dimensional pattern was developed to add depth while preserving legibility. For these dress-watch versions of Evolution 9, Grand Seiko describes slimmer, elongated grooved indexes and narrower multifaceted lugs. The manufacturer says Brilliant Hard Titanium is brighter than conventional titanium and makes Zaratsu-polished surfaces appear more radiant. It also characterizes the material as light and highly resistant to corrosion and scratches; those are manufacturer claims, not comparative test results presented here.

Choose the SLGW002 for rose gold and scarcity
The SLGW002 is the choice for someone who specifically wants an 18k rose-gold case and gold hour markers, and values a numbered-by-edition-size release limited to 80 pieces. Grand Seiko announced it as exclusive to its boutiques. That launch description does not establish present-day availability.

Choose the SLGW003 for titanium
The SLGW003 uses Brilliant Hard Titanium and was introduced as a mainstay Evolution 9 model. Grand Seiko US lists its weight as 60 g, along with 45.0 mm lug-to-lug and a 20 mm band width. These figures apply to the SLGW003; they should not be assumed for the gold SLGW002.
Compare fit and everyday use
The shared 38.6 mm diameter and 9.95 mm thickness provide a useful starting point for assessing proportions, but case diameter alone does not establish how a watch will fit. For the titanium model, compare the listed 45.0 mm lug-to-lug length with watches that already suit your wrist. The 20 mm band width is also listed specifically for the SLGW003.

Both watches are hand-wound and carry an approximately 80-hour reserve. That combination may suit someone who wants to wind a watch regularly and does not need automatic winding. The 3-bar launch rating—and the US page’s “splash resistant” description for SLGW003—should not be read as a swimming or diving rating.

At the April 9, 2024 announcement, Grand Seiko listed UK recommended prices of £43,600 for SLGW002 and £10,300 for SLGW003, with a notice that prices were subject to change. These are historical launch prices, not current quotes. Check Grand Seiko or authorized retailers in your region for current pricing and stock; the launch announcement’s worldwide retail language does not confirm present inventory.
