Grand Seiko’s tool-free micro-adjustment clasp is no longer merely “on the way”: official product pages list it on the SLGB003 and SLGB015. The clasp makes three 2 mm adjustments, for 6 mm of total sizing range. But Seiko Watch Corporation President Akio Naito’s April 2024 comment was not a promise of a launch date—and the official pages do not confirm a retrofit for older watches.
What did Akio Naito mean by “on the way”?
In April 2024, a commenter on a Watches and Wonders LinkedIn post asked, “Where’s my micro adjust?” Seiko Watch Corporation President Akio Naito replied, “On the way…” Time+Tide reported the exchange on 24 May 2024, interpreting it as a sign Grand Seiko was listening to customer feedback and exploring a solution—not as confirmation of a product or release schedule. In an interview published on 8 October 2024, Hodinkee asked Naito about the bracelet update and whether new clasps might be offered for older models. He clarified: “But it hasn’t materialized quite yet. We haven’t been able to execute it fully yet, so there’s no timeline.” Read the Hodinkee interview.
Why did development take time?
Naito described the work as more complicated than simply adding an adjustment mechanism. In a later Time+Tide interview, he cited technical construction and patents held by multiple brands as factors. He said Grand Seiko wanted a mechanism that was distinctive, easy to use and durable, while meeting its quality expectations. As he put it: “As a brand, we cannot compromise the quality of the micro adjustment.” Time+Tide’s interview with Naito.

Those comments explain the development challenge at a high level; they do not identify a particular patent, mechanism design or infringement dispute.
Which Grand Seiko watches have the micro-adjustment clasp?
Grand Seiko’s official product pages document a three-step, tool-free clasp on the SLGB003 and SLGB015. Each adjustment step changes bracelet length by 2 mm. These are the two models established by the cited official pages, not necessarily an exhaustive list of every current or future Grand Seiko offering. Check Grand Seiko’s live regional listings for availability and pricing. The SLGB003 announcement, dated 1 April 2025, said the model was planned for release on 6 June 2025 through Grand Seiko boutiques and salons; that announcement-era plan does not establish present stock. Can an older Grand Seiko be upgraded?
That remains unconfirmed by the official sources cited here. Naito said in October 2024 that the company still needed to consider how a release would be handled. The SLGB003 and SLGB015 pages show the clasp fitted to those watches, but do not establish that Grand Seiko sells it separately, that it fits older bracelets or that a retrofit program exists. Owners should check with Grand Seiko or an authorized retailer about their specific watch rather than assume the new clasp will fit.

What should buyers compare?
Both documented examples have 37.0 mm cases, the 9RB2 movement and the same three-step adjustment. The clearest stated distinction in the cited product specifications is exterior material: high-intensity titanium on the SLGB003 and Ever-Brilliant Steel on the SLGB015. Compare the dial and model you prefer, regional availability, fit and weight, and current local pricing before choosing; live listings are the source for current stock.
