The difference is the dial: the SBGA507 is cool blue, inspired by early evening over Lake Suwa, while the SBGA509 is dusty rose, inspired by sunrise. Grand Seiko describes both as revisiting the kirazuri theme.
What’s different between the SBGA507 and SBGA509?
The dial color and the scene Grand Seiko associates with it are the meaningful distinctions in the official listings. The SBGA507’s blue dial evokes the early evening sky over Lake Suwa; the SBGA509’s dusty-rose dial pays tribute to sunrise over the lake. Grand Seiko connects both designs to kirazuri, an artistic technique involving mica powder that is often seen in ukiyo-e woodblock prints.

The official product pages do not list a size, movement or price difference between the two watches.
Shared 44GS design and construction
Both watches have a stainless-steel 44GS case and matching bracelet. Grand Seiko dates the original 44GS to 1967 and says it established Grand Seiko Style; these contemporary models use the 44GS design rather than being exact replicas of the original. The brand describes the modern case through broad mirror-polished surfaces and facets that play with light and shadow.

Caliber 9R65 Spring Drive: reserve and accuracy
Each model uses Grand Seiko Caliber 9R65, a Spring Drive movement that winds automatically and can also be wound by hand. Grand Seiko lists an approximately 72-hour power reserve and accuracy of ±15 seconds per month (±1 second per day) for these watches. The movement has 30 jewels and a power-reserve indicator.
Grand Seiko describes Spring Drive as combining quartz-watch precision with mechanical-watch torque. The company says the system was introduced in 2004 after achieving automatic winding and a 72-hour power reserve. For the SBGA507 and SBGA509, the relevant published performance figures are the 9R65 specifications above.

Are the SBGA507 and SBGA509 limited editions?
Yes. Grand Seiko identifies each as a U.S. limited edition of 300 pieces. The limitation applies to each model individually.
